I used to buy my meat there as well before we moved "south".

Pity we can't form a co-op and send someone to go up and buy it in bulk ;)

.......and you can often find local farmers that will sell you a sheep or pig and have it jointed for you at the slaughterhouse, assuming you have sufficient freezer storage.

Sad to say but most of the 'farm shops' near to me (Yorkshire Dales) are tourist rip-offs icon9.gif
We moved to a less fashionable part of Yorkshire and prices are so much cheaper here. Our local farm shop is brilliant, it's on a farm (unlike the ones I used to go to) and is run by the family from Grandma who bakes the cakes to grand-daughter who grows plants. They don't sell meat but the farmer can always tell you about a man who does. Last year I asked if they had any cooking apples and the son asked me to wait. 5 minutes later he came back with a bagful and said they were 10p because they were from their tree!
I do envy you living in the beautiful Dales.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Sorry! :o I shouldn't laugh, but, the mere thought of CQ promoting a sheep/pig to a veggie just tickled me sooooo much - because I may well have done the same!!!! :rotfl:

The arguement fell flat as we did a taste test here. Bought organic veg and a chicken, eggs and bread. Had a real good cook up and made Sunday dinner with Yorkies and a braed n butter pud with Mums recipe custard. Delicous yum yum, What a winner on the day.......................... During this very week had to do (have!) a quickie tea. Beans (value) on toast and they loved it, so quick, so easy but the fact was both times everyone was hungry.
I do eat a lot less meat nowadys and buy organic when its weekend, it feels better on my coinconce, for all concerned.
