You could contact them before training to ask for order clarity in order to plan your personal life

Not really. There are many ways to operate the shifts in a rota so only the employer can provide this information.
  • "Rotational rota's and their ilk" are the pits. I made the mistake of leaving it till induction once, let's say their were tears and that's before they changed the option of a set shift time to now every single week we work different times. A one in six weekend turned into one in four as best case very, very quickly with no recourse added to that I've yet to ever see a 1 in 6 rota or 1 in 9 (bold claims in my experience!) always think a month is more practical to work on.

This is definately a situation I'd urge someone to get their working times in writing where ever possible before setting a foot into the building.

The point of the rota is to provide some consistency for you so you can predict in advance which days are busy/free. Done well, they work excellently, and you enjoy not having to do your shopping on a Saturday with the crowds. The actual implementation is down to each system though - 15h in 5 days could be a single really long shift with 4 days to sleep it off, or 5h/day with a pseudo-weekend.
