Ppe

A family member started new employment requiring her to be on their feet walking for their shift. Company issued new footwear and said ONLY company issued footwear to be worn. Nothing special as in steal toe. The footwear provided is causing said person crippling sore feet after weeks of wearing them.

Surely the workplace as a duty of care owing to the fact these supplies shoes are causing her to be crippled in pain? Repetitive strain injury is what comes to my mind to suggest a legal question in a letter to the management .

Suggests? Thanks

In what way is this PPE, it sounds more like part of company workwear.

Any company can supply boots and insist on them being worn under the umbrella of health and safety. If every employee wears them you are stuck with them. If some employee's do and some don't you might have an argument but you'd need to find out why the rules aren't being observed by everyone first.

One possibility is to buy better quality boots that look the same and wear them instead. Rough them up and discolour them a bit and it is possible to get away with it.

The last option is to wear the boots supplied. If made of leather soak them in hot water and wear them for a few hours wet and they will mould themselves to your feet. If not leather try insoles, thick socks, foot powder, whatever it takes.

What kind of crippling sore pain? Blisters, muscle pain? Has she been to her GP? Have they confirmed that it was related to the boots? Has she shown this to her employer? If not, then that's the next step she needs to take.
