Hi All

Spurred on by the many posts on the subject I have decided to give this a go.

I have set a target of being mortgage free by the time I am 45 (I have just turned 39).

I wish I had done this sooner.

  • you have set the goal now good luck , it can be done, keep your sight set on the date , listen to the way the markets going, agree to put extra money aside when you can and im sure you will meet the date perhaps even reach it sooner.

  • Hi NWN,

I wish you luck:money: You will see that I have just set up a diary to be MFi5 too. We couldn't achieve MFi3 - but MFi5 is realistic. If we succeed we will save £142k in interest, Now that's worth having;). Do you know how much you will save?
  • Excellent News. First of all, get yourself a budget together (there's a free downloadable one at moneysavingexpert.com/budget).

Now - NineWhileNine - have you been waiting for a train?
    Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
    Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
    Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
    ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)
  • Thanks for all the encouragement.

I have 10 years left so I am basically cutting that in half.

I should have had this paid off way back as it was 'only' a £20K mortgage when it was initially taken out in May 1990. Bad information and products are to blame there. I am man enough to admit I made some bad choices but I reckon my main fault back then was that I was naive to think that the advice I was given by 'those in the know' was right. I have since changed lenders twice.

I don't think I am going to save a great deal money wise, I think it will be around £3K? But there again my mortgage and remaining balance are no where near as high as some of the figures I have seen on here.

    Indeed I have ;)
