No it actually had the exact details of what was in each of my accounts. Although I am a paye payer and they reduced my tax code to account for any interest tax which was very minimal there were no other discrepancies. When did the law change to allow this

    Sounds outrageous. This notification:

    1. Was it form P2?

2.If so, what part did the account balances play in the form's calculations?
  • I know this is an old post but i had a compliance letter today and its scaring the life out of me .The joys of HMRC :(
  • I'd you haven't done anything wrong what is there to be scared of?

It would appear, from reading other people's personal experience with HMRC, that you don't need to do anything wrong to be intimidated by the bunch of incompetent jobsworths at HMRC.
They can certainly make you feel like you're hitting your head against a brick wall - and that is quite scary, and also painful!!
    Before doing something... do nothing

Either you work for HMRC or this is a facetious comment - not sure which. I suspect the latter?

I have to agree with Dazed and Confused here. If you've done nothing wrong you should not be worried, and before you ask, no I don't work for HMRC or any other law enforcement body.

It should be noted, Bobby_Bouche, has started another thread where he admits to forgetting to tell HMRC about trading profits he's made from e-Bay. Should he be worried, not if it's a genuine mistake and he is able to pay the tax he owes. But, if HMRC think he's deliberately evaded paying tax, then yes he should be worried. From what he's posted on the other thread, I think it's probably the former situation.
