Yes twigs everywhere when they were nesting, eventually blocking my gutter and downpipe.  I only ever had a pair so hardly an infestation but still a lot of mess.
    3.995kWP SSW facing. Commissioned 7 July 2011. 24 degree pitch (£3.36 /W).
    17 Yingli 235 panels
    Sunnyboy 4000TL inverter
    Sunny Webox
Solar Immersion installed May 2013, after two Solar Immersion lasting just over the guarantee period replaced with Solic 200... no problems since.

13 Feb 2020 LUX AC 3600 and 3 X Pylon Tech 3.5 kW batteries added...

20 January 2024 Daikin ASHP installed

"Only a pair" this year maybe but every chance that this year's chicks will return when they start breeding.

It was only ever a pair ... very distinctive as one was white with a black “shoulder”. No problem since fitting the mesh

The pigeons seem to have found my roof this year, after 7 years of never seeing them.
Ooh, bu&&er! I'd better watch out too then. They must have been reading this thread..

As a potential solution maybe just get a ladder out and put the neighbour's cat up there for an evening.. She's white and looked most dramatic when I saw her with a red mouth eating a pigeon on the lawn! She'll be confused though, as I normally chase her from the garden, being such a bird stalker..

I think the seagulls aren't doing their job here.  They are supposed to attack pigeon nests to get the eggs or chicks.

Is there anything I should be Googling for to find people who fit guards on solar panels?
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • Unfortunately gulls can't fit under most panels.
    Search 'solar panel proofing'
Try Expelpest, always willing to quote but distance might kill the price

You can search for a pest controller on the British Pest Control Association website.

Just put in your postcode, select Residential as your premises type and chose the Birds service.

I'm finally getting mine done next week, weather dependent.
I'll report back on the total cost and standard after they've gone.

25% deposit of £140 paid to secure, we'll see what happens.

Couple my wife knows had theirs done last year by some outfit, charged them £1320!

I've had quotes ranging from £480 through to £1640!

4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
Now with added Sunsynk 5kw hybrid ecco inverter & 15kWh Fogstar batteries. Oh Octopus Energy too.

Hi, sounds like you might have got a good deal. Out of curiosity, I'm currently getting quotes to have my panels protected. Had one for £600 from local company. My roof is quite hard to access apparently so they are insisting on using scaffolding. Is this something you are having to use as well?
