  • Things still moving forward on the house - no word from the window company following the surveyor's visit (which was an insult really - he spent ages denying that there was an issue, then realised he could pass some blame onto the installers so then admitted there were problems, offered a couple of solutions and some new windowsills as a 'sweetner'!! :rotfl: suffice to say that I declined his offer!!) so the final letter demanding my refund will go in on Monday and then it's off to small claims court if it's not forthcoming within the 14 days that they have to do it....I'm not messing around with them anymore and it will end up costing them more as I will claim for my time, legal costs and compensation.

Ds is currently sorting taking the ceiling down and has ordered the new internal door frames and two of the internal doors, hopefully the sparky will be here again this weekend and I'm not letting him leave until it's all done as the plasterer is here from 4th December and we still have to do the prep work!!

I've been very good and declined a night out with my friend....I just can't justify the expense at the moment and I really don't have the time to have a hangover :rotfl:

I am going to have to sort my finances out again soon....as a result of things not going to plan, I've kind of lost track of what I've paid out for the house and where I am with it all.....it's a bit of a pain to be honest, but if it gets sorted this weekend I won't have too much to rectify and I'll be confident that I know where I am moving forward.

I'm looking forward to starting my new diary at Solstice - the main 'work' should be done by then and we will be relying only on ourselves to finish stuff off - I definitely want the inside of the house to be done by the end of March 2019....I've started to choose furnishings and colours to take my mind off the chaos and visualising the finished product is cheering me up a lot!!;)

  • so the window saga continues, I bet you are proper fed up with it all and really could do without the agro. Hope they get their heads out their bums and do something about it. I wish people would just admit they've made a mistake and correct it do they not realise that often their reputation can be damaged by instances like this. Fingers crossed you won't have to take them to court.

  • Thanks CR :D in all honesty I've got beyond the point of no return with them..the letter goes tomorrow and I'll just deal with whatever comes as a result...lifes too short to spend any more time stressing about it - they'll be getting no more money from me and I'm going to carry on with what I need to do as if its all over ;)

So, good news...sparky came this weekend so I now have working external lights, doorbell and most of the holes bonded!! :j still stuff to do but he's back on Wednesday or Thursday to finish off :D plasterer will be here the next week for 11 days and then its just the cleaning, decorating and second fix of the electrics before we can start putting the house together :T

ds is doing door frames from tuesday so its a really busy week ahead...work is also going to be full on so I'm unlikely to be able to check in for the next week or so...however, i will read what i can and be cheering everyone on from the sidelines ;)

  • Well, we have some door frames done, two doors turned up but both were damaged so they have been sent back. The plasterers have been here for a couple of days and we have discovered that all the ceilings need to be replaced so that is happening at the moment, there is still a mountain of work to be done and I must admit that I am getting a bit fed up with living in chaos but I still think that getting this all done at once is the best option! ;)

So, I am making plans for the new year - 365 days to clear everything and have a fully owned house that I love. I know that it is going to be really hard work but I am so determined to get this done in the timeframe that I'm certain that nothing will put me off....

    381 days to go......
  • My final week at work before I'm off on my winter break!!:T

It's been a really busy weekend - finally got the windowsills sorted and the wall rebuilt in between the bedrooms so just waiting for the plasterers to finish this week then we can start decorating!! :j

Less than two weeks now to Solstice - I'm really looking forward to the next twelve months, I know that it's going to be really hard work being totally frugal and watching every penny, but to think that in just over 12 months from now I am going to be sitting in a home I love and have the whole thing paid for makes the sacrifice all worth it!! I'm going to have the biggest Solstice celebration I've ever had next year - the grandbaby will be old enough to really appreciate it and it will hopefully be the first really relaxing one that we have had in a few years :)

II have gone out this morning and bought some of the alcohol for this year - dil and I decided on the menu a couple of days ago so I am starting to make sure that I have everything that I need - I must admit that shopping at 8am is pretty good - no fighting through crowds or anything :) I'm pretty much sorted for Solstice now, I just hope that we can get enough order in the house before this one to be able to have a good evening that's relatively dust free!! :rotfl:

Today, I'm catching up on bits and pieces that I have not done over the weekend and then I'm going to have a peaceful night with some rubbish on the TV and a beverage - dh is away tonight so I'm going to get an early night if I can and catch up on some very needed sleep....

    377 days to go......
  • Only a few days to go before the transformation begins!!! :D

I'm really looking forward to the next year, I know that it will be really hard work but it will be worth the blood, sweat and tears shed once it's done ;)

So, today I have done the budgets to a great extent - the house is going to be much more expensive than I originally anticipated (as these things tend to be! ) so I have to reset my financial requirements but not the time frame! Hopefully, I have overestimated the costs of the remaining work and can make savings on certain items, however, I'm currently looking at around £475 to find every month to achieve it!! :o I still have to balance the accounts so I will do that on Solstice so that i have the most accurate figures possible :D I should have some surplus here and there so will get that off the figure hopefully on the day.

In all honesty, I was hoping to be in a better place financially but problems were hit here and there so the costs had to be met. Some of it is me not really keeping an eye on things, that stops with immediate effect - I will hold the budget with an iron fist from now on! ;)

I had my suma order delivered last week so I have plenty of stocks for the next couple of months - once solstice is done, we won't need any additional fresh stuff for a while so hopefully will do a full week without needing anything at all!

I'm going to join the grocery challenge on Solstice, I'm going to have to decide on an annual or monthly budget as I'll be doing the frugal living challenge too....I think I will be spending a lot of time on here over the next 12 months! ;)
