Do you have a spouse/partner? Do they have a pension? Do they earn enough that you could put all/some of your current income into a PP or Sipp?

I agree at 43 with 71K, and having a good financial set up, you will be working more and could possibly get employed rather than SE once your children are older.

I would not advise downsizing while your children are still young/at school.
  • Thanks Atush. I am on my own. You are right that it is probably just a question of working more when the kids are older.

And if you have an employer rather than being SE, your employer will pay in too.

The best pensions tend to be those where others pay in for you ;)
