Bills of Exchange Act 1882

Hi all,
I'm in a battle with Natwest Plc and sent them a letter stating that under the Bills of Exchange Act 1882 then they must provide proof of the debt.
They have written back to me with a letter stating that it is a USA act and nothing to do with the UK!
legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Vict/45-46/61
I think this website says different! :-)
I find it very amusing that this financial giant in the world of banking
does not know that this is a UK Act.
How should I respond?????
Thank you

Ugh, why are you quoting Bills of Exchange Act in the first place, and which sections of it do you think are relevant? Prove it letters are governed by FCA's consumer credit sourcebook, namely sections 7.5.3 and 7.14, and that is what you should be quoting. There is even free template avilable at national debtline you can use: https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/sampleletters/Pages/Complaining-to-debt-collection-agencies-that-you-do-not-owe-the-debt-(sole-name).aspx
So I would say respond with citing the correct law in proper form.0 -
Thank you Arleen,
I have asked them to supply proof of the debt that they say I owe, they have not done this so I was advised to send them this letter quoting the BoE Act.0 -

From a certain website that shall remain nameless is my guess !!
If you want to regain your credibility, either send the provit letter, as advised above, or if its particular proof you require, send a section 77-79 request (CCA) also available from National debtlines website.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
