Employer not paying up, where do i stand?

Hi, i ve been working for a company since 03/07/07 and on monday 24/09/07 they told me there was no more work. i can understand that there isnt any more work, but what i dont appreciate is that they didnt give me any notice, they just turned up on monday and told me i was out of a job. Also they didnt pay me for last weeks work and they havnt paid me my week in hand. Ive been trying to contact the bosses and the main office but nobody answers there phone. Can anyone let me know where i stand on getting my money?

Thanks.
Dean.

Are you on a temporary contract? If you had one, what does your contract say about notice periods?

It is only Wednesday, would you normally have been paid for last weeks work yet?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • i havnt got a contract, well i didnt sign anything at the begging of my employment, my fault really. i should of been paid on friday for the weeks before last work as i was working a week in hand and this friday should of been last weeks work.

So were you not paid last Friday (21st)?

Assuming that you were on a temp contract, you would not be entitled to notice.

  • They cant withhold the money you earned during there employment. write them a letter (recorded delivery) asking when you can expect your final payment.
keep records and keep writing, if they dont pay up take them to court
  • no, i wasnt paid last friday. i contated them on friday when the money didnt go into my account and they said there was a bank problem and it would be in monday morning. i went in saturday to get some over time in aswell assuming every thing was fine. monday morning came and no money so i contacted the again and they said it will go in in the afternoon. then i was told i had lost me job and they wont answer the phone now.

It happened to all the workforce, not just me.
  • i think that last bit may have put paid to getting anything..have they gone bust ???
  • Not sure if they have gone bust or not as i cant get hold of anyone. what would happen if they went bust?

    What's the company called?

PM me if you don't want to put it into the forum.
    British Ex-pat in British Columbia!
  • Well if the place closes then its assets would go to paying off its debts, 9 times out of ten this means that workers dont get there money because there are usually bigger debts to pay elsewhere. i would go to the citizens advice bureau and seek proper advice
  • Thanks for the replys, will contact the cizens advice and see where i stand.
