Conveyancing from England to N Ireland

Hi folks – planning to move from England to Northern Ireland in a few months, and have had difficulty finding a reasonably-priced firm who will handle both my sale and purchase. The firm who moved me into my current house say they’d be happy to do my sale, but I’d have to find somebody else to handle the purchase in NI…

1. Would I be asking for trouble using two different firms? House-moving is stressful enough at the best of times…
2. Or can anybody recommend a firm which would handle both, and doesn't charge the earth?

Thanks

I made the same move some years ago. Most solicitors are qualified to practice in either N.Ireland or in England. lLooking for someone who is qualified to do both is a bit of a tall order. For that reason I found it much easier to appoint two solicitors. It wasn't messy at all.

Have you tried a solicitor from here?

They may be willing to do both sides of the water and may have experience of it with more people moving from NI to England usually than the other way round :o

Oh, and welcome to God's Country :)
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Brave man doing it all in one...
I rented for about 9 months after moving over, so didn't hit the problem (or the cross the water completion issue).
But then I was pushed for time, as I only had about a month from job offer to start date.
My old place didn't sell until I was already over here, but being chain free may have helped it, as it didn't take long.

Cheers for that – and that may happen, because properties over there seem to be on the move after years of stagnation, just when I’m ready to go of course. Might have to put the gear in storage and stay with the parents in Glengormley for a while

Carrick, eh… I’m looking at Whitehead or maybe Islandmagee

When we made the move over I had a solicitor here, one in London , and one in Hampshire to work with ( parents made the move with us)

    Now that was stressful

Two houses to sell, pack up and move from there, to one purchase here, best diet I've ever not been on lol

We sent our furniture over and had it in storage whilst we stayed with friends in Scotland for a week so that only one house sale and purchase had to tie up
