St Patrick's day

Have a nephew coming for a visit next week and he's just stunned me by asking about St Patrick's day

Me and DH have always worked the day so don't have a clue. I told him he needs Belfast to see a parade ( he's in Eire the flowing week)

Am I right? Will he have a good day in Belfast?

If he goes, what pubs would be good for him during the day?

Think Downpatrick usually have a parade as well.


Parade usually ends up in Custom House Square with some events on there so somewhere like McHughs might be a good spot for a few pints

All pubs will be super bunged from opening time


Belfast City Centre will be full of drunken teenagers

If your up near the North West there is a variety of things to do and to be honest it is more family orientated in comparison to Belfast

Avoid the student areas around the Ormeau Road on St.Patricks night.

Not pleasant

Now I know why I've never bothered lol

He's from Oz so I guess they see the parades on TV and think they are a must see whilst here, like doing the GoT tour and the causeway etc

I think I'll convince him watching the racing around the local is more traditional and will be more craic

I do like having a few drinks on St Patricks day - I do enjoy Belfast, but stay out of the student quarter - too busy!


McHughs is a good spot - although very busy!
