Hmm essilor comfort is a decent mid range lens
Specsavers Elite is meaningless it is a price cateogry the actual lens supplied may vary. I believe specsavers manafacutre most of the lenes themselves now .0 -
I have some Asda varifocals - really happy with them. Think I paid about £120 for two pairs.
I recently bought a much more expensive pair from Specsavers - had to return them as they touched my face and fogged up. The replacement pair I haven't worn at all.
Prefer my cheapo Asda ones and fully intend to buy some more in different colours0 -
So. Did you get them & whats the verdict?
Thanks for following up, been meaning to update you all
Yes, I got them and ultimately I'm happy with them and the sunglasses too.
I was worried because they took an awful long time to get used to in different situations, but I suspect it was because I (and Specsavers) had put off replacing minor changes in my eyesight for years.
I guess I'm not due a sight test for 18 months but all good so far.
Cheers!

Update, Asda VFS are fine, but they are not as thin as the very best, So a bit heavier.0

You used to be able to pay £40 to go thinner than Asda recommended, that was when they brought in their "everyone pays one price" model.
It isn't advertised but was put through as an upgrade at the dispense, it's a thought if you can't get used to your new index or want to go thinner next time.0 -
I'm fairly new to varifocals. I avoided Specsavers as they told me their cheaper lenses weren't very good, why sell them then???
Anyway, I went for Asda varifocals, after the initial period of getting used to them I've had no problems at all.0 -
I've been wearing Asda verifocals for 4 years very happy with them, the only snag is they only have one design that fit.
I had glasses from Specsavers in the past, they had to change the lens 3 times, before I could put them on without feeling sick. ( felt like motion sickness)
Has anyone tried B00ts opticians
ThanksI love MSE, Thank you to all who share their journey and knowledge to reach their goals and live a good life on a small income.
2025 will be a year of necessary challenges and changes, and closing some doors permanently that don’t serve me or are not in my best interest.0 -
Just found this thread as my eyes have changed and I need some new glasses. In the past I have had varifocals from France which were very good but very very expensive.
Then in uk I used Specsavers for several pairs, last two times I used Asda and was pleased with them.
But it is a drive of 15 miles to Asda and I can walk to Specsavers so am about to go there again.
The thing that annoys me is the lack of information on websites about the lenses. They do not tell you who makes them, there is no chart to compare field of view so it all has do be done in noisy rushed shop with all the important information done verbally so no come back if you are mislead.0 -
SS told me they now make their own lenses.0

Have had detached retina over the summer but fixed and need new prescription :-( Specsavers will reglaze frames for £300 or £250 with 241 frames. Elites are Essilor.
Will check with ASDA if cheaper and if can fit in 1 hour too.0
