making bubble bath

I helping out at a guide meeting soon and was thinking of making some bubble bath with the girls.
Is it possible to use diluted washing up liquid and use some essential oils for perfume?

I wouldn't. It will bubble but washing up liquid is not ideal for bathing in... plus it's not really making it anyway. It's just using fragranced washing up liquid!

Could you try something like a sugar scrub instead?

You would not believe the attention span of some of these girls! So, for them, it would be making it. I was also going to get them to decorate the bottles to give as gifts.

    Why is it unsuitable?

Goodness, washing up liquid has chemicals in it to strip grease from dishes. No way on earth would I let it anywhere near my fufu.

Yikes not washing up liquid! Eek!
This page has a batch of possible recipes but the root ingredient seems to be *mild* liquid hand or body soap.
This site looks fun and this one has several ideas, including oatmeal bath sachets, which has the merit of a range of things to make/using different skills.
  • Why not get them to make some natural face masks or body scrubs instead?

Use natural ingredients and teach them a little bit about using harsh soaps and chemicals and how to best avoid them.

In answer to the question, no, you should not bathe in washing up liquid.

You don't know what you're doing - which is fine in my book.... willingness can sometimes be better than qualifications.

BUT - at least realise that you're mixing chemicals and skin here - and any number of them might have allergies, or funny skin - and so might their friends/family they foist it off onto.

Just go careful - and make sure that anything you use is SAFE to use.

Superdrug sell a huge bottle of their own brand bubble bath

A review says that it doesn't interfere with essential oils fragrance and maybe you could add some food colouring or glitter if the girls want to make it into gifts? (Very small amounts of colouring though, you don't want an irate mum with blue skin coming round to complain! :rotfl:)
