Could be, depending on the time of day (often cheaper at closing down time) but not likely to last as long. I'm talking about ordinary street markets not the Farmers' Market sort.

People's experiences of Aldi fruit and veg varies but mine is good especially since they started putting easy to read dates on them.

I was using my local greengrocer, until I saw him with two other employees in the local Lidl loading up the big trolleys full of f&v!

Generally I shop between Aldi and Lidl for the super 6 and equivalent. Occasionally get the offers in Co-op (and end of day reductions) as the pack sizes are more manageable for just the two of us - a little more expensive, but less waste.

It'll depend on the market. I vary where I buy from Aldi, Lidl and a local shop mainly. Braeburn apples from Sainsbugs though as they are consistently better quality. My wife will occasionally buy something from the market if the price is right and it looks good quality.

However, I took over an allotment plot last year and I am getting in the swing of growing my own veg and soft fruit. Still got onions from last growing season.

  • Wouldn't recommend Aldi... The fruit & veg I buy from there is always very poor quality and always goes mouldy before the use-by date. I've never had this problem with other supermarkets and typically Asda have the best quality at decent prices. Try local markets for lower prices too. :)

I wouldn't buy fruit and veg from our Aldi...I was taken there once or twice (too far for me to visit on my own) and found the quality to be REALLY poor. Some of the fruit was already mouldy on the display....it really put me off shopping there.

Our Lidls was closed for some months, but has now reopened - YAY!...I will see about getting a lift there. I have generally found their fruit and veg to be 'acceptable' but wouldn't buy soft fruit/berries there as they never seem to last.

I buy fruit and veg from M&S...which is nowhere near as pricey as people think...and I regularly get a 20% off fruit/veg offer on my Sparks card. The quality is outstanding.

I have also used the market there was a chap who did local fruit and veg at very reasonable prices. Sadly, the local market is closing down too - just one fruit/veg stall remains - they have moved from a standard market stall to a permanent covered stall/shop. It is very sad to see the market go.
