As above - I solved the dilemma when I downsized and everyone had to take their stuff, or lose it forever. I found that was the problem with living in the family home - although the family had all moved out, they still expected their old rooms to be exactly as they’d left them.(Sometimes complete with Take That posters…..!)
  • I have had coffee now 🙄 so my language is working a bit better. If you have a lot of stuff and it's something you want to work on, it might help to see the full picture. You could do something like take a photo of each room, print them out and put them all together.

With the reflux thing.  I don't think anyone expects you to make a choice.  We all seem to react differently to different things.  What we all hope is that one of the things we suggest & which affect us personally will help you.  So definitely no one size fits all, just try them & keep your fingers crossed.  I am just grateful that my ongoing symptoms are a lot milder than most on here, thankfully never as bad as my initial ones & I have no idea what caused them.

@Sun_Addict and @liselle, I'm not too worried about DS2's things really: he had a limited amount of time to put stuff in the van, get back to his new place and unpack, then the van had to be back at the hire place first thing in the morning. He took a big heap of clothes, a large fish tank, two guitars and electronics, some boxes of bedding and kitchen wares... we had agreed the bed would stay here as our guest bed and he's buying new. Small items I suspect will either be picked up when he's here or taken over to the new house piecemeal by us. Once they're out of here they're his to deal with.

There are some bits of furniture that I thought he'd take, but once the main things are set up I'll see if he wants them. If he doesn't, we'll either use them ourselves or rehome them. The chest of drawers is the annoying one as we could have used the storage space, but the contents can go down to him soon enough. At least we have more space to move in that room and our clothes have more wardrobe space than they've ever had!

Generally when I get overloaded I do nothing, then look on the Internet for a plan.
It is your house and you can can decide what to keep. As long as you are deciding and not avoiding deciding by keeping everything.
I have had some decision making assistance by putting everything into categories in boxes first
I like idea of putting things into categories: it's sort of Kon Marie in a way. Not that I can really work with KM, but seeing all the items of one kind together and choosing a favourite, then one to go, hopefully a few times before I get to the 'can't decides' - that helps. At least that way, some will have gone! I may also see things afresh if I've not considered them for a while, so I can decide whether they fit in with my wants and needs nowadays, not just when I got them.

@badmemory, it really seems to be all over the place at the moment, then I realised I could be starting a cold which could explain why the sore throat persists. I've been avoiding wheat today so I'll see how I do tomorrow.

I bought Gaviscon this afternoon as the doctor suggested. I've never had it before so I'm holding on for wonderful results. :) I've done a bit of googling though as it occurred to me there might be a link between the reflux and the chronic dry eyes that aren't getting any better with treatment. Apparently about 34% of people with one condition have the other too. As far as I could glean, it's the acid spreading. As the doctor sent me to the optician (they have a minor eye conditions clinic there), there's no reason the dry eyes would randomly be associated with reflux: the professionals won't have access to each other's notes.

I've had a few late nights recently. The nearness of Christmas is putting me into avoidance mode.

This morning DH woke me up to say he was going out to an early choir rehearsal, but I managed to make it to church in good time to meet A and dgd1 for her first carols by candlelight. She was keen to see 'Pampa' on stage and I think she liked the music well enough. With her Dad alongside her, she was much braver than when she was with me, and had a bit of an explore. After the service DH had said he'd help at a fund-raising carol singing event outside the Town Hall so a friend and I went along to encourage them. It wasn't too cold and they sang their way through a lot of favourites, raising over £200 which is nice.

In the afternoon, DH and I had a walk, though mine was the short version, finishing up at the pharmacy for Gaviscon and Iceland for a bottle of squash. Since then I've completed the next job application and sent it off, DH has made chicken curry for dinner (one extra portion for the freezer) and we've watched most of a really interesting programme on Vermeer.

It's good having that application sent off. The tedious re-writing has been done (thanks for the suggestion of a Word document, @in_need_of_direction, it helped, and now I have it for future reference). It's a relief cleaning job, which I think should stretch me a bit future without overdoing it. I've gone through the local jobs again but there's not much this side of Christmas, not that I want to start anything this week!

    Expenditure:
    Medication £6
    Housekeeping £1

So, I have a cold. Woken at 5.30 by DH because my snoring was keeping him awake, despite Olbas oil! He got back to sleep and I didn't.

He's off to his Auntie's this afternoon and overnight. She chose not to come for Christmas, as she worries about the trains and DH can't get time off to drive her both ways. However, she wanted us to have presents in time for Christmas and both of them will enjoy the change of scene.

Good news, in that I already have an interview for the relief cleaning job. I wonder if the head of department recognised me from my work history, as we've been in contact in a different context.

I now have the Word document and Excel sheet for homework... I'm tackling Word first as I'm fairly confident, but part way through I discovered a nifty keyboard short cut that I was rather proud of doesn't seem to work any more. Rather, it turns the brightness down! Perhaps I've forgotten, or perhaps this is from the era of Word for dinosaurs? :D

I'm now going to clear the little table I moved into DS2's old room and use it for wrapping central. I admit to far too much stuff on the dining room table. :(

And it's 13 degrees outside, in December.
