Ooh, enjoy your new boiler! I spent all of the Platinum Jubilee weekend customising an IKEA kitchen cabinet to sit around mine, as much as i love it, I wanted it hidden 😁
Ours is going in an old fitted wardrobe - with an airing shelf above so I can get maximum benefit out of that lovely heat!

Wow you've had a super productive day. Glad that your husband is back to being sprightly and you've had a good saving with the smart thermostat, cashback points and giving to charity. It makes such a difference when your home is warm doesn't it?
So much difference! It's quite warm today but that's partly because I've been dashing round making sure the boiler person/people have decent access. This meant putting a few boxes in the loft. I also got my Christmas jumpers down. It's a bit alarming because the loft feels damp and has condensation, which is new. DH says even the beams feel damp. There's a ton of stuff up there so I try not to put back as much as I take out but today was a fail in that respect, and I hope things aren't going to be ruined if the damp persists. At least I've moved a few things around and taken a few out.

Well, I wanted a sit-down after all that, so that's what I'm having. I've brought logs in, poured the wood ash on a rose tree (they like it) and set up the fire, and we've not needed to light it this evening. The hall thermostat reads 16 degrees, and between exercise and recent cold, that's fine by me.

Great news you’ll soon be back up and running with a new boiler 🥳 Interesting about the bread as Mr SA eats far too much of it. I’ve said before I thought his IBS was linked to bread. He won’t listen to me though and disagrees 🙄

Well I now use gluten-free bread - I tried an oat cereal but it caused such severe bloating that I looked eight months pregnant! I take probiotics that seem to help. It’s such a minefield.

    Good news re.your boiler

I (very briefly) tried g/f but symptoms didn't change. My sister is g/f, though, so perhaps it's something I need to investigate more as things can run in families.

I was really surprised when I found oats are hard for a lot of people to digest. They are my go-to carb as I'm not aware of any problems with them. Then again - maybe I should try to calibrate awareness of reflux with oat eating? It doesn't cause bloating with me, which bread, white rice and some potato dishes do. Wholemeal versions cause fewer symptoms... I must remember all this and bring it to my appointment on Thursday.

Just for my record: two nights ago I didn't eat after dinner apart from a hot chocolate. No aspirin either. Reflux pretty quiet. Last night I was hungry at suppertime and had oatcakes with butter and cheese and this morning I'm back to symptoms.

I have found aspirin an absolute nightmare.  They gave it to me as a blood thinner in hospital for my hip op (I always want to say hip hop).  As I'd never had it before I didn't know I shouldn't take it.  I had the worse symptoms I've had for years.  Never again!

I'd always thought I tolerated it very well as I never get gut pain with it, but now I'm wondering if stomach issues means just that. I do bruise quite easily while I'm on it but that's common. I'll see if they might consider changing either the aspirin or the omeprazole.

Long term use of omeprazole can actually cause gastrointestinal issues. That's what the doctor said about my teenaged nephew who was on it for a while, but it messes with the stomach and can cause weakness in the bones. So that might be something to think about too?

I saw a gastroenterologist who was appalled to hear that I was taking aspirin. He said even coated aspirin is a no go.
I stopped the aspirin and now I’m on a lesser dose of Omeprazole.
I’ve never had pain, just the reflux.

There is no way another aspirin is ever passing my lips.  Pain in the old place & putting it bluntly throwing up for England.  I kept telling them but maybe because I wasn't taking omeprazole regularly they didn't take it seriously.

Unfortunately I have to take aspirin unless I can get them to prescribe another anti-coagulant, as I have a  narrowed vein in one eye so if ever a miniscule blood clot got in there, I'd be likely to loose the sight and be left with chronic pain. So some sort of mild anti-coagulant is necessary.

I've not had pain, either, apart  from one time when I woke with chest pain and ended up strapped to loads of monitors. They couldn't find anything wrong with my heart so they thought it was likely to be reflux. With hindsight, I'd eaten a bag of chocolate misshapes the day before so I probably deserved it! /however, over the years I then had a few episodes of waking up choking, which have stopped since I've been on the omeprazole. Last year symptoms got worse and a doctor advised me to cut down on bread, which really helped, but it's getting worse again. I do suspect both the aspirin and the omeprazole, so I need to get that across to the doctor on Thursday.

Thank you all for your input: it helps build a wider picture.
