Another lazy morning for me while DH went for a walk to a local beauty spot. Now the sun's come out and we are following its example.

Another £3 spent already. I topped up my data by 1GB a while ago (£6) and needed more. I'm not sure this will last till my next contracted top up but having data gives me both leisure and safety so I don't begrudge it.

Yesterday afternoon in Lyme Regis was lovely. Following the antiques-filled storehouses of Bridport the day before, we discovered the most amazing second-hand bookshop where I resisted all but one temptation. I must try to post photos later! I'm loving the book I bought for all of £3.50 (Elsie J Oxenham, for anyone who loves old school stories).

We also bought a multi-pack of crisps (last of the big spenders), aqueous cream (£1.99) and miniature screwdrivers (£1.49) then ate out (about £30) after wandering through various other shops and relaxing in the sun at the beach. There was a beautiful pink tinge to the cliffs that moved around as the sun set. Perfect. :)

A couple of interiors of yesterday’s amazing second-hand bookshop. I must mind my weight as I couldn’t have got round if there was more off me!

The first picture: yes, that's a wig hanging randomly on top of a step ladder. The second picture is the basement: I could just squeeze round between the cardboard and the stairs, and there were more shelves behind.

It was the most marvellous collection of books, it's as well I don't live near because I could have bought plenty more.

This morning DH had a two hour walk and I caught up on the laundry. If that sounds like an unfair division of labour, I prefer it this way! I struggled to hang things on the rotary line though as it was too tall for me.

We had our smoked salmon sandwiches for lunch, with cake from the farm shop. The good life! Then this afternoon was spent on another beach, this time one with fossils. We found quite a few. I love collecting sea glass, so I had a pocketful of that too. I think our total spending has been DH buying an ice lolly while waiting for me. He had wanted to go metal detecting but apparently this beach is National Trust and they require a permit. I think he still enjoyed the afternoon, though.

This evening I made soup, using things we had in as we need to be using up. Tomorrow is tidy up day as we move on, on Saturday morning.

Loads to be thankful for: interesting things to do, good rest and mostly dry weather, good food, not getting stuck in the narrow lanes!

An odd day today: I thought I'd slept well, and I definitely look healthier than I've done in a while and have more energy, but today has been weird. I had half a dozen spells of slight light-headedness with swollen glands and snuffles, then by late afternoon felt actually unwell and generally lightheaded. I'll try to remember to do a Covid test in the morning as we are due at a dinner in the evening and if I'm unwell, it wouldn't be kind of me to spread it. On the other hand it may just disappear off, it's impossible to know from one day to another. Thankfully my blood tests are due on Wednesday.

All that said, we've still done holiday stuff today. DH had two walks this morning! I stayed in and washed my hair, did my language app, read a bit of a book... This afternoon we had to go to Bridport again as I'd dropped my reading glasses last night and couldn't find them, then DH found them down the sofa cushions and a funny shape! Good to find a branch of my optician nearby and have them fixed straight away! We then had a further explore of the town, finding various bargains in charity shops and second-hand bookshops, and doing a small top-up grocery shop as we need enough to last till Tuesday. We never knew, when we planned the holiday, that it would end on the day of the Queen's funeral and most shops would shut.

    Spending:
    Clothing £18
    Books £20
    Hobbies £3
Entertainment (coffee and crisps! Though one free coffee with loyalty points) £3.35
    Parking ?
    Housekeeping £8.25

Things I'm thankful for: being able to get my hair reasonably tidy again! (After a few days of under-conditioning and seaside breezes!) Finding more old books to feed my habit. Free hot drink. More nice weather. DD feeding the goldfish, watering the plants and searching out an address for us back at home. L having got off to a good start in his new job and handing in his dissertation the same week. Photos from A and H on their hols the other day. Negotiating the thread-thin local lanes round here without accident (so far!)

Safely home! We had two wonderful meet-ups with family over the weekend. The first was with a couple celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. We didn't know many of the party but were on a very sociable table and made friends as well as feasting. Some spending on Saturday: a donation to enter Wells Cathedral, a share in a bouquet (will be about £10 when the other person has paid us back), £6.50 for drinks and cake in the afternoon.

Today we had car parking at the hotel (£4.50 for £24 hours) and about £1.75 for snacks at the service station (and a pint of milk as shops are shut tomorrow). We found diesel at just over £1.76 a litre which is much better than those places still charging around £1.80. We had a meal with DH's cousin and her family over in Bath, and didn't leave till mid-afternoon, arriving home about 8pm. A really lovely visit. We've both had to top up the data on our phones - £3 for me and £6 for DH who has been using his as a satnav.

I think it's time for bed but a lot of the unpacking is done and the rest can wait for the morning.

Things to be thankful for: a good holiday, safe journeys, seeing people we know from way back, being able to get milk before the shops shut!

Incidentally - and feel free to ignore as this is partly for my own record - on 17th I felt fine, and I've been fine much of today but definitely giddy now. How weird! The sore throat and swollen glands weren't a problem yesterday, but are definitely back today. I'm thinking reflux as a result of weight gain? Who knows!
