I've finally waded through your diary again Cherry! I've been reading it in cribs and drabs since your March entries!😱
I was pleased to read that all is going well for the wedding. 👍. I do hope the baby improves though - poor little thing. ☹️Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

Oh my goodness @Seasidegal58, that must have taken you ages! Thank you.
The wedding was lovely: very much the casual style of the couple concerned in a great setting and small enough to make friends with the other guests. The baby is better today thanks - on the mend anyway. We didn't have our planned meal with them just in case, but parents are still testing negative.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

So last night I got a really itchy eye: antihistamines didn't cure it and I woke up today with the sinus inflamed and feeling under the weather. This cleared up by late afternoon after a quiet day and a bit of a nap. DH kindly watered the church plants for me and I stayed in all day apart from helping Dh with a short gathering-in of blackberries and the first of the greengages.
It's possible the eye problem was from being out in the sun too long.I managed not to burn at all but didn't wear my sunglasses much because I wanted to see the colours of things I was buying.
It's still hot so we left cooking till evening. It was roast chicken (enough left for two or three meals if supplemented) with carrots, cauliflower and roast cauliflower greens. Very nice! I'm proud of myself for not wasting these and remembering to use the oven space to do extra potatoes. I think we might need the oven again at some point soon for roast veg as there are quite a lot to use from the L!dl box.
Thunder is forecast over the next few days. I wonder whether it will rain, too? There was local drama today as an area of town had a power cut and some supermarkets had to destroy a lot of food... sad but I can understand why it couldn't be donated. People were questioning why the supermarkets didn't have back-up generators. Years ago we used to get minor power cuts quite often but as this has decreased I don't suppose anyone's really thought about it.
Nothing spent today. Tomorrow I need to remember my timesheets at work - I have a backlog! If I don't get the June one in this time around I'll lose the right to it. Basic pay continues, this is overtime and sleep-ins.
Things to be thankful for tonight: a nice break over the past week, a start on sorting presents for people for Christmas (sorry to mention it so early), a restful day and my eye getting better.
I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

We have rain! A shower earlier and now what sounds like the real thing. I hope the shower softened the ground enough to allow at least some of the rest to soak in, as I read that the ground is far too hard for sudden rain to penetrate much and flooding is likely. It's nice to hear it even though we've not suffered such a prolonged dry spell as the south.
I did some housework this morning then the window cleaner came and was able to reach the bits of the bathroom window that I couldn't. The top part opens and is partly hidden by the blind so I'd lost track of how clogged with muck it had got, and the window cleaner usually does the glass not the edges of the frame that are hidden when it's closed.
Work was quiet: not many people staying and our hot water has failed so we've borrowed showers in an adjacent building. Then the freezer started to warm up so lots of things have been ferried to emergency freezer space, and some milk got thrown out. I asked if I could take some home: it's in date and still largely ice so it will be fine to use and I'd forgotten to organise any for me at home. Later on the freezer went cold again so we suspect someone hadn't shut the door properly. I also had milk spilt on me - fortunately not too long before it was time to go home because even fresh milk seems to smell quite strongly when it's soaked into your clothes! They went straight in the wash with laundry disinfectant once I got home.
Spending
Household (windows) £5
Things I'm thankful for tonight: rain (which has slackened, hopefully giving a chance to soak in), two more days off about to happen, being asked to switch from early to late on Saturday.

A muzzy-headed day today for some reason. I remembered to go for my mammogram (routine but last one got missed due to pandemic) and have had my glasses fixed, then wandered around a few shops but didn't buy anything.
This evening I'm supposed to be going for a walk/takeaway/board games session with friends but the rain is forecast... in fact a little is falling now but so little fell overnight that I think it has forgotten how.
A tiny bit of money saving has been not buying instant coffee as I have loads of gifted cafetiere coffee to use. I'm just a bit lazy about getting it out.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I was tired this afternoon and dozed off briefly then just did nothing to conserve energy. Eventually I felt guilty so some of the ironing got done, then I walked round to my friend's house. A word of explanation: this is our Tuesday group which was originally much larger and is now three core members. However we'd planned this evening for ages and someone else joined us who has moved away so the three of us crossed town to another friend and walked her dogs into town where she joined us (she has an injury and needs to avoid much walking) and we were joined by another former member of our group.
We all went for fish and chips then back to someone's house for a very intense board game!
So it's gone from being a washed out day to be a very good one. Undoubtedly it helped to spend time with friends and get some gentle exercise. The odd back pains came alongside the tiredness but I've read a bit on long Covid now and muscles and joints can be affected. A couple of painkillers did the trick so I wasn't exactly struggling, unlike the friend with the injury and another of the group who's just recovering from a procedure. I do wonder how long we can keep going as a group with the illnesses and injuries afflicting various of us, but we enjoy it when we do meet.
Spending:
Entertainment £13.50
Things I'm thankful for: my friend's procedure seems to have gone to plan, I was able to have a lazy afternoon and therefore to enjoy the evening, discovering I had more in my purse than I thought, catching up with people I don't see a lot, not buying unnecessary things this morning, a hot bath this evening (we are trying to have showers more than baths so this was a treat).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. Another exhausted day - but I had enough energy to look after baby N for a couple of hours this morning which was delightful. They've chosen a nursery near us too so I'm hoping we can help out around nursery hours if needed.
I slept this afternoon and have been rather out of sorts since. A couple of small jobs got done - sorting a shelf of a cupboard and using bathwater to douse the garden. We've not had much rain and it's not forecast for another week - looking at news footage of flash flooding in London, the weather has changed dramatically there. Here, it's just cooler. Our hosepipe ban doesn't come into force till 26th, which I don't understand. Surely if they made it effective immediately, less water would be wasted?
Work rang this evening to say the unit is closed to clients as we have no hot water, so could I change my hours and work daytime tomorrow. I mentioned the remaining four hours of last year's leave, so now I only have to go in for the afternoon.
DH bought dinner today so we had salmon - he has more expensive tastes than I do! He decided to fry it to save having to heat the oven, though. Later we went to L!dl for other shopping - I only bought one discount pastry, which is a considerable improvement on recent visits! There weren't any veg boxes or bargain meats to tempt me, and I saved a bit by using a couple of coupons. We also bought a few bits towards feeding a guest next weekend.
Spending:
Housekeeping £19.85
Things to be thankful for this evening: tiredness striking when I don't have to be at work! A less-active work day tomorrow. Managing to resist most of the junk calories when I went shopping.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

A bit more energy today, helped by not much to do at work. We'd thought there would be tasks to do but with me having the early part of the shift off, it was done when I got in. The manager had a visitor and introduced me then asked if the visitor could ask me questions about the work so I had a happy hour or so.
The visitor was nice to talk to: didn't have insider knowledge of the field but made a good guess at certain aspects and well... I do like to talk!
In fact we talked for so long that someone had to let me know I was overdue my supervision! The supervision was okay: I have a new supervisor but it's someone I have worked with.
After work I went shopping and found some really nice discounted fruit in !celand and a ready meal and chocolate for myself tonight as DH was finishing up a casserole. And that's it for today apart from trying to sort out my annual leave bookings which I've given up till I can get a diary for next year. It's so complicated!
Spending:
Housekeeping £4.09 + approx £5 (digital receipt isn't showing for some reason).
Things to be thankful for tonight: a shower of rain just now, a punnet of cherries (and other fruit but especially cherries), more energy.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
