Just to bear in mind for others & for the future that the 6 months is only relevant if you have no idea that they may/may not have been in any debt. Even if you have no idea if they can have been in debt & you are the executor & SOLE beneficiary, you needn't bother with the 6 months because you are liable anyway. I did my mothers whole estate in less than 2.5 months, with HMRC coming in last with a tax refund made out in the wrong name, takes weeks to get changed. But solicitors do like to drag it out. I would never use one unless the estate was complicated.

As I understand it liability extends only to the estate of the deceased and can't be passed on to any beneficiaries. We've only need a solicitor for the sale of the house.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Dog walking today was very wet - the poor animal gave me bewildered looks and shook himself resignedly! My friend gave me a lift back into town but actually apart from being rainy, there was nothing difficult. Not cold, windy etc.
I had a look round the clothes department of the supermarket and found nothing suitable for my interview, but just round the corner was a charity shop where I got some crisp black trousers for all of £3. I have a smart shirt and jumper to wear with these and I've cleaned my shoes already, so there's little left to consider for presentation. Other than that I've rearranged tomorrow's meeting for the following week as none of us is really best placed to have a get together just yet. I've waded through the list I made earlier and have a few items ticked off, and I've not bought anything else. Even the photos I was going to print have been put on hold as there aren't really enough to make an order worthwhile and they are all a bit fuzzy on my phone due to lack of space. I've deleted a few but not enough to make things work properly.
This evening I'm thankful for getting lots done on my language app, for the weather being mild enough for the rain not to be a problem and for smart trousers for interview day.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

An easy shift at work: I cheekily asked someone who's done interviewing to come up with a few questions for me and he was very helpful.
Everyone seems to know about my interview: I didn't keep it at all secret because I knew news would get about but I'm surprised how efficient the gossip machine turned out to be!
The weather's been lovely so DH and I walked the dog after work which was probably a good idea in that it's put pressure on this evening to finish interview preparation and if I don't have pressure I tend to leave things rather late. Now I have my printouts with the job details, my interview clothes are laid neatly on the spare bed (sorted down to hair ties and coat) and I really need to get my birth certificate etc out and double check the list of things to bring.
I'm a bit nervous but apart from reading through stuff I don't know what else to do. People who know me seem to think I'll do okay but I might have a mental blank and forget something basic! Well, that's always possible but I can apologise charmingly and fit it in when I remember (done that before: got the job!).
Tonight I'm thankful for this opportunity, for helpful people, for tiny daffodils blooming in the wall baskets.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Good luck with the interview, go smash it 🤞I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

Thank you @in_need_of_direction (I like your definition!) and @Sun_Addict
I'm not sure whether I smashed it, it's always hard to tell and they mentioned they are interviewing all day. The questions weren't in enormous depth so I was constantly adding 'added value' to my responses in case they missed how good I am!
I know I missed an important point on one question because one of the interviewers added it on afterwards, though I think I did a fair job with the rest of that particular one. Some were a walkover (thankfully - I never manage to remember all the notifiable allergens but I only got asked for one. Rather giddily I said lupin flour - which is rare in English cuisine - but I added fish, molluscs and soya for good measure... wonder if I will get marked down for not being able to count to one?)
I'm off to work this afternoon: even if I'm successful I probably won't hear till tomorrow.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I don't think I've got the job as I've not had a phone call, but I'll give them a ring to find out how I could have improved. As they were interviewing quite a few, I expect it's gone to someone with direct experience.
I started to tackle the side panels of the baby blanket I'm knitting and I think it will take a while. It's been about four months so far!
Today's been about walking: over 23,000 steps so far. I went to my friend's and walked the dog - he's getting to know me and sometimes just stops and looks at me which I find quite touching. He seems to be saying 'You are nice, please pat me on the head or give me a treat' but of course I could be wrong. He looks so innocent he could be plotting something and I'd never suspect it. Then my friend kindly drove me over to H and A's because it's a couple of miles. A was working but H and I spent the afternoon walking the (wakeful) baby to get her to sleep. The weather was overcast and by the time I went home it had that feeling of hazy cloudiness you get before a summer storm.
Some shopping over the past couple of days, though not the big replacement items yet.
Housekeeping (including daffs reduced to 99p) £13.58
Tonight I'm thankful for time with family especially being involved in DGD's life, seeing lots of bedding plants in the shops (resisted them so far!), being able to walk some distance in comfort and safety, a nice message from a colleague saying she was glad they still have me!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living.
