  • Tracking spending is probably a good idea, but on the other hand if DH doesn't do it then you won't get a full picture anyway.

Are you going to apply for the NHS job do you think?

    Have a nice Saturday.

Thank you HH and INOD, yes, today is the day I start digging into details about that job!

I've had a good weekend though I'm post-viral and by the evening I'm tired. I've made an effort to have a decent walk each day, bundled up like a Michelin man. I need to get back to fitness but it comes at a small cost. Symptoms (readers can ignore this, it's to help me track it): slightly short of breath with an occasional cough so I think there's a bit of bronchial inflammation, and my eyes are sticky, particularly when I wake up and everything is blurred in the first hour! Sore throat comes on regularly in the evenings but that could be forgotten doses of omeprazole.

Saturday (two days ago) was foggy and freezing but I had a brisk walk around town in the later afternoon and ended up doing about 6km. I paid for it later in terms of tiredness but it was falling-asleep kind of tiredness, not jelly legs. Yesterday (Sunday) was a family birthday breakfast in the morning so we saw everyone except DS2. I'd heard from him the other day and he is working a lot due to staff sickness. He did say his new contracted hours come in soon so that should give him a break.

After the breakfast we had J, L and their dog round for lunch and Dh made a lamb tagine. It was nice but not as good as his lamb curry, which is fantastic. I need to make an effort to eat less meat now. That's twice I've had lamb recently and I've had things like liver and bacon too. Very nice but not what really works for me apart from as an occasional treat. Anyway we took the dog for a walk over the remainder of the afternoon, then they went home and we watched the Great Pottery Throw Down which is nice and relaxing.

I was less tired yesterday afternoon but was also thinking about the potential new job so I couldn't slow down mentally and ended up getting up for a decaff and toast till about two. I need to find a new book as recent reading hasn't been relaxing enough. There was a full moon last night and a clear sky, and today is clear and bright. Saturday night had been another episode of not getting to sleep and I'd been puzzled by what sounded like rain but there was none falling in the light of an open door. It turned out to be hoar frost defrosting off the trees, loudly and rapidly.

Today I have washing in the machine and made a start of my French language practice earlier as well as the Bible in one year app and some knitting, and I've ordered my next prescription. It could turn into one of those days where I do everything except the one thing that's time-pressured, i.e. the job application!

When I was doing my job applications I did everything but, kept putting them off. Get that application in, you’ve got nothing to lose, doesn’t mean you have to take it if it’s not right.

    Thanks SA, you are right!

I got into the advert and printed out all the relevant bits then went for a walk to recover. :) I've discovered the hours are longer than at my present place but concentrated on three days. This doesn't surprise me as I think its more the norm, but I'm not sure how I'd find it in practice. There's nothing in there I couldn't handle, though of course it comes down to how well the competition performs, not just me.

I did a bit of shopping including getting a refund for some cheese we bought the other day that turned out to be already past its use by date. (Puts virtual Food Hygiene hat on and frowns). I bought another variety that cost a pound less. :) I got other groceries too and spent a pound on a book in a charity shop that I hope will be good winding-down material. Honestly, I look so much older than I did a few months ago! I need decent rest or the hospital will be admitting me not interviewing me!

I'm tired again this evening though I've not done a huge amount. I listened to something about getting exercise early in the day to help sleep at the opposite end of the day and I'm in the mood to try it, especially with the clear blue sky we've had today.

One odd thing: I cut down on instant coffees, even decaffs but I'm getting through more packet cappuccinos. I've just finished a jar of coffee I bought over a year ago for DH's Auntie's use when she visited us at Christmas 2020! I'm still working my way through gifted ground coffees: there's a self of them in the kitchen and I'm the only one who has it. Imagine over a year to finish a jar of coffee!

I've also been looking locally for cubic knitting needles and haven't found any, but they are a possibility for the long borders on my current project. More research needed but at least I've ordered the backing fabric so it's just one order.

Oh, and DH picked up a favourite mug of mine and the handle came off. I don't need another but the sale is still on with that company...

    Spending:
    Book £1
    Housekeeping £12.48

Things I'm thankful for today: time off when I can get out in the fresh air (even if I do leave it till there's only an hour of light left!), beautiful brilliant full moon, a bag of sweet potatoes to help me eat better and lose weight, a new book to read.

I heard a similar comment yesterday about exercising early helps you sleep. It’s funny you should mention about looking older as several people at work have recently commented that the past two years have aged them. I think it’s all the stress. Good luck with the application 🤞

  • It could be all the stress about Covid aging people. Good luck with the application, you have nothing to lose by filling it in.

Yesterday I had a very short shift at work, only four hours, but I fell asleep afterwards then I couldn't sleep at night. I made myself lie still and rest so the Fitbit thought I'd had about four and a quarter hours and I expected to be wrecked today but no! A seven hour shift, trip to see H, A and baby and I didn't doze off till after dinner. Still got the evening sore throat but I generally feel a lot better.

It's exciting to hear the Government think we can soon do without many of the restrictions, but there were close n 500 Covid-linked deaths yesterday. Even if the death rates lag a couple of weeks behind infection rates, that's still a terrible thing. I wonder how we are supposed to get back to something like 'normal' (which we've probably forgotten by now) yet not drive rates up?

The fabric has come to back the baby blanket but I've another 30+cm to knit, plus borders.

We took a knitted first Christmas ornament from a friend together with H's card and present (we won't see her on her birthday) and a welcome card for the baby which we bought four weeks ago then lost. :( They still have the cards up though so we didn't quite miss it.

    Spending:
    £30 -Gift

Things I'm grateful for this evening: returning levels of energy, beautiful sunny days and no frost this morning, a colleague heading off a potentially serious problem at work.

I think the government’s only interest now is the economy unfortunately.
