Here I am again, on a grey day with a bit of rain - so different from recently. I'm having a bit of post-rush slump which the grey isn't helping but DS2 is home and his presence helps even though he keeps himself to his room. He had a big clean-up yesterday and called me in to admire the glow-in-the-dark solar system he's pasted on his ceiling does this mean he thinks he's going to stay put? I can't say I'm looking forward to him going again but I know he's on the look out for accommodation near his job and it would do him good to have his own space.
So I have been doodling away on the computer getting not much done. The course that's nearly out of time and the PPI claims that are also nearly out of time - still untouched. On the other hand I have bookmarked a gift for my sister which I will pursue once pay comes in, so I've not been entirely unproductive. I've also agreed to do the sleep in at work tomorrow night which is a few more ££ in the bank but will reduce my computer time unless I take my Kindle and use that after work hours finish. That never really works though as I end up talking to the night staff, so today's the day for getting things done.
I have little get-up-and-go but I'm not tired so I need to motivate myself (cue Flylady-style 'dress to the shoes, do my face and hair). Would much rather be reading diaries.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Well, I have sent in Mum's PPI claim. I don't hold out great hopes tbh but if I didn't try, I'd always have wondered - and I do get angry when I realise how much she overpaid for some things just because she couldn't get out and had to rely on adverts to make choices.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. With a slight feeling of being on a roll, I've discovered details of three catalogue accounts that Mum had. One mentions a 'peace of mind plan' which I'm fairly sure is some form of PPI. The catalogue still exists but not on Resolver so I drafted an email and had an automatic acknowledgement, so I know it got there. I then found another catalogue account was actually a subsidiary of the first one so followed the same procedure.
A third account wasn't actually a catalogue but she was on their mailing list and eligible to pay in instalments so I've emailed them, too.
I need to get out and get some fresh air, give my eyes a rest and run a couple of errands but it's pouring down...I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I have a reply from catalogue 3 to say they have nothing to do with PPI, so that's one off the list.
Meanwhile DH and I have been searching for the details of our first mortgage - neither of us can remember who it was with! I think the paperwork is gone: at least it's no where to be found. We've also gone through home and buildings insurance documents and found nothing to indicate PPI and I'm as sure as I can be that it isn't included in our current mortgage. That leaves the one we had for a short time where the Building Society can't find a record of it but that's on Resolver, on a count-down to the Ombudsman taking it further. We have found a number of statements from that mortgage, though, so we have plenty of evidence: it's just that it's more than 7 years old.
On the plus side, DH found details of the first pension scheme he was enrolled in: we'd both forgotten it but he's going to double-check if it's been added to his current pension pot. If not, it probably can be.
All the stuff I pulled out of the bookcase to get to an old file at the back is now in place again, the loft hatch is closed and the bed is nearly clear of things that got put on it while DH searched the wardrobe! Wow, such a mess. I keep chipping away at the 'stuff' and I've improved about not bringing so much in, but it's a bit worrying that it takes such a lot to get me moving. While in the loft I pulled out some stored clothing for hols and have offered DD a couple of pairs of gorgeous boots that I have to admit hurt my feet too much to wear. If she doesn't want them they will go for sale: now seems like a good time to advertise things to wear next season.
I did fit in a walk into town for shopping and an errand, and ended up having a long chat with someone, but didn't spend too much.
Spending:
Housekeeping £3.07
MS:
Frantic efforts to do at least some PPI claims. It was a real battle with myself at first.
Very economical baking powder from the eco shop: I filled the little tub only half full as I don't want it to go out of date. Cost me all of 36p.
Tried cheaper tuna to go with the pasta tonight and it was okay, though I might not like it in a sandwich. Saves a bit though, and the drained weight is the same as that of more expensive tins.
Bought DH a Bramley again for pudding - a little over half the price of the tinned apples he often gets.
More onions... while they are cheap and a good size.
Cheap goldfish food! I'm experimenting with the odd salad leaf, blanched and torn up as I read this is good for fish. They still get flakes but the leaves are considerably cheaper than pond weed and the fish seem keen. (I do the shelled peas as well, and cucumber wedges, in case you're wondering).
Decluttering:
Fifteen pieces of paper and an old catalogue. Oh, and a guilty conscience about only doing one PPI claim.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I think all my PPIs are in! A couple of acknowledgements so far, so a little progress on their side too, and no websites crashed on me (maybe everyone except me got ahead and did them ages ago).
Off to work now.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

It's nice to have a day without PPI - though now I need to move on with giving extra info to the catalogues that Mum had, and anything else that's come through. Not that I'm looking yet - it can wait at least till I've done the more fun stuff.
Pay is in, and it's more than usual as I have the 'extras' from 2 months due to sending in a timesheet late. I have made the (now-regular) mortgage overpayment which is exciting, and shoved some towards savings as per agreement with DH.
Talking of DH, it's nearly September and that's The Month when he finds if his efforts at work have been deemed sufficient to keep his job. He says he's keeping an eye on job adverts just in case, but it's not what I'd call job hunting. He doesn't have time for that because work and commuting take so much out of him, plus responsibilities for his dad. So we'll see. Things could look very different this time next month, but I don't know.
I'm back at work this afternoon so my main job till then is to push on with my course.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I finished my course about four minutes before midnight - yesterday's email said it ended 'today'! Well, I skimped massively so it's as well it wasn't examined, but I did all right on the 'check your knowledge' tests. It was so much fun! DH had the very good idea of enrolling for it himself so I could finish it - I suppose strictly that's not necessary now but I like his thinking.
Nothing spent today but I think I forgot to mention a 99p e-book a few days ago.
Well, my course talked about the importance of sleep, so it's goodnight from me.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
