The Times Subscription call from bored call centre staff

Had a call from the Times today with the usual you entered a competition etc (the F&M hamper).
But the woman kept stopping and you could hear her trying to stop herself laughing, and there was laughing in the background too.
I was trying to catch up on answering an important email, so she continued with the how often do you read the paper etc and that I might find a subscription helpful etc.
I said I'm a writer I don't have time to read my local paper.
She kept stopping to stifle her laughter. Then she said she understood as she didn't have enough time to use her Pogo, and there was laughter in the background.
I pointed out I was busy, and had important things to do, she got the message I was annoyed.
She then had the cheek to wish me luck in the competition when it had already been drawn.
Unprofessional was not the word I would have used...

I told them my dad buys it and I read it occasionally when I'm over for dinner or something, so she did the whole speel about asking my dad if he wanted a subscription, it'd save money blah blah so I just said "I'll ask him" .. a week later they called back so I just said "I asked my dad, but he'd rather support his local newsagent" ...never had a call since.0

In the interests of money saving, if your dad reads it every day, it IS a lot cheaper to subscribe, you get vouchers which you use as cash in the newsagaent's, so they get full payment just as they would if you paid cash. You can 'spend' them almost anywhere that sells newspapers. We subscribe, and I read it online while is nibs reads it for real. I do the sudoku online too. There are lots of offers in the paper, probably better to take one of those than buy from a phone call. The only downside is that the vouchers are dated, so if you miss a day it's useless.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Competition Time, Site Feedback and Marriage, Relationships and Families boards.
