    The only difference is that an academy trust is its own employer for LGPS purposes whereas a fully LEA maintained school is not. This causes a fragmentation of employers in the typical LGPS fund, but not a decrease in individual membership. This is quite different to the few private schools in the LGPS, which are 'admission' not 'scheduled' bodies and so free to restrict membership or seek the exit door if they can afford it, much as if if they participated in a multi-employer private sector scheme.
