Competitive salary

I've found a job which states that the salary is 'competitive', which is always ambiguous. It's a trainee business analyst position at a medium-large employer (circa 3,000 staff) in the south of England. Can anyone shed any light on what the salary could be? Approximately?

In all seriousness any time I've applied for a position that doesn't specify a salary in the past they have been below average on the whole. If the salary is attractive, you'd advertise it.0 -
Competitive means the bare minimum they can get away with paying and still be able to recruit0

Competitive means they don't want their existing staff to find out what today's market rate for the job they're doing actually is.0

I always take a salary being advertised as 'competitive' as a bad sign. That to me suggests the salary is either fairly poor or it's completely up for negotiation. Either way it's a red flag to me and I generally wouldn't apply for a job that didn't list the salary.
If you want to apply for the job at least be clear what the minimum is you'd accept and use that as a baseline.0 -
I have seen plenty of these knocking about on job websites. As a trainee anything, in the south you can probably expect anywhere between 15-20k. I'm a trainee engineer in the East/South-East and I get 17k if that gives you an indication. Best thing to do is contact them and ask them what they're willing to offer.0

Competitive is just a clever way of saying "meets the paying minimum wage requirement". Don't expect any more, if it does then look at it as a bonus.0

The only way to find out is to contact the firm/employment agency and ask for the range
When I look for jobs and they're marked as 'competitive' the range can be as much as £30k in terms of the highest and lowest salaries they are looking to pay for.0 -
Personally I do not bother wasting time and energy on applications for "competitive" as 99% of the time it is way below market rates.
To put any effort/time into applying for such vacancy only to be told at the interview that is way below what I would be willing to accept - nah...0 -
