AST To Periodic Tenancy - Scotland

DD2 is in private rented accommodation in Glasgow and has a 12 month AST that expires in July or August (I can't remember). If she and her flatmate wish to stay on in the same flat, what's the law in Scotland with respect to Periodic Tenancies please?
(I'm assuming there's no clause in the AST that prevents a PT coming into effect ... I'll obviously check her documentation).
TIA.

Your daughter can't have an AST. She will have either a Short Assured Tenancy or an Assured Tenancy. What if anything does her current TA say will happen at the end of the fixed term?
Edit: If her TA is silent on the matter then her tenancy willl automatically renew for the same period as the fixed term. For example, if her current agreement was for 6 months then it would automatically renew for another 6 months. It's called tacit relocation.0 -

Thanks for the pointers (and the corrections). At least I now know what to look out for when she asks for help in a few months time.
(DD1 was able to handle all this herself when she was at university; DD2's brain isn't so logical [doing an art degree] so she needs more guidance).0
