if you want to save money, why not use the underground with an oyster card, or use the slower but cheaper heathrow connect service which travels on the same paddington heathrow line, but stops at each station0

HI MT Pockets
Thanks for your reply. I am not at all familiar with London and the thought of going around a big city like that terrifies me. I thought that the Heathrow Express was the quickest most straight forward way of getting into LOndon.
I will have a look at the other options that you have posted.

Jelly,
It really all depends. Heathrow Express is a quick way of getting into London, but london is a BIG place, and the HE might take you to completely the wrong part that you want. You might end up paying £15 (yes, £15 !!!!!) to take the HE, then have to get on the tube anyway (which will cost you more) and double back where the Tube would have taken you anyway, ending up spending an £15 for no good reason whatsoever.
If you want to sightsee or shop, then you will have to get around the big city by Tube !
To save you time, Lets see if I can help.
When you arrive, where are you going to ? Will you have much luggage, or things that you need to consider for your travel, like a bike, kids or OAPs ? Is there a group, or just you (as if there is a group, a taxi is going to be cheaper than 5 x 15 fares for heathrow express)
Where are you staying, and from that base, where do you want to visit.
What questions have you got about getting in, out and around while you are here.0 -

Thanks for the offer of some help
I am staying in a hotel near the British Museum. I will only have a small suitcase. No kiddes in tow, just a friend and myself traveling. I will be flying in on a Saturday afternoon and flying out the next day. I am going to a party in a hotel near the British Museum. So no time for sightseeing, just need to nip into London and nip out the next day. I will be flying too and from Belfast.
Cheers

Hi Jelly,
OK !
FORGET the Heathrow Express. It is £15 per person, per direction. And it takes you to Paddington. To get from there to the British Museum vicinity you will then need either a black cab, or two tube trains and if don't know your way about, you are asking for trouble !
Don't be intimidated. It seem it will be just far less hassle and strain for you to use the Tube from Heathrow. Heathrow is served by only one line, the Piccadilly Line. Trains from Heathrow go in only one direction, towards Central London. You can't make a mistake ! Journey to Central London will take 50 to 60 minutes depending on what stop you are heading for.
There are three stops in the vicinity of the British Museum, which are "Tottenham Court Road", "Holborn" and "Russell Square". The Picadilly Line tube from Heathrow takes you direct to two, " Holborn " and " Russell Square " tube stations. Most Central London tube stations are within walking distance of each other, so don't worry too much.
If you put in the postcode of the hotel at " https://www.multimap.com/oldsite ", not only do you get a map, but it will also tell you the nearest tube stop.
You can actually find out how to walk from either tube station to your hotel here " http://www.walkit.com/ "
Now, to save money, when you arrive, buy an Oyster card. You can get this from the ticket office, NOT the machines. You will have to pay a (refundable) £3 deposit for the card. As a rule of thumb, Oyster Pay As You Go can be used on Buses and Tubes only, but sounds like it should do you for your visit.
It will make a big difference, as a cash fare on bus is £2, but charged to your oyster at £1, likewise some tube journeys are £4 cash, but charged to your oyster at £1. On Weekends, Heathrow-Central London trip is £4 cash, but £2 if you pay by Oyster credit. MAKE SURE TO TOUCH YOUR CARD ON THE SENSORS. If you are certain that you are really ONLY going to make 2 tube journeys, Heathrow to Hotel on Saturday, then Hotel to Heathrow on Sunday, just get £4 put on it.
If you think that you might make a few more trips than this, ask for it to be loaded with about £6 worth of "Pay As You Go Credit", you can get more if you need it. The credit is taken of the card for each journey, to a maximum "Daily Cap", which dependent on your usage is limited to a maximum of between about £4ish and £6ish.
Now if you are back at Heathrow with time to spare queing on Sunday, you can get your deposit on the card back at the Heathrow Tube ticket office.
Saturday afternoon getting in should be quick enough. But allow yourself an hour and a half on Sunday, as there are sometime engineering works which slow things down. Advance notice of Engineering works is found at " https://www.tfl.gov.uk "
Central London to heathrow direction, there are two branches of the line. Make sure you are on a Heathrow train on the return journey !!!!
Good Luck0
