Small Claim Against Me

Hello,
I signed up for a trial internet service. The service was to provide links and leads for my small business. The free trial lasted a month after which I had little success so called up to cancel.
The salesman then convinced me to take an additional two week trial. After which I sent email (which they 'never recieved') and then phoned twice leaving a message for someone to call me back.
I had never given them any credit card detail as I did not want to be charged for a service that is no use to me. I have not signed or used the account for over 2 months. Now it seems thay have kept my account open say as I did not contact them to cancel and want to take me to small claims for around £700.
Does any one know the law in terms of liability? Can they just cliam they never got my emails or phonecall and charge me retrospectively for a service I never recieved.
This was all done over the internet and via email. There has been no signed contract. They said they will settle for around half the sum but I would like to know.
(i) Do they have a case?
(ii) What happens if I was to go to court and loose? How much extra will it cost me and does it effect credit rating?
Many thanks.

Hi
I'm afraid I have no idea about this, but it sounds like you would be best getting in touch with the CAB who will hopefully be able to provide you with what your rights are etc.
Best wishes

did they just write you a letter threatening?
You could contact a solicitor (am sure your first consultation is free), print out the emails you sent them including the headers (date time sent etc) (should be in your sent folder).. keep all documentation.. to and from them...0 -
Have you asked about this at you local Business Link? They might have heard of this sort of thing before and how it was dealt with
