Reference question - same boss?

In my company, promotions are awarded by applying for a new job, though anyone including external candidates can apply for the jobs. The job I am applying for will still have the same boss as I currently have, and she will be doing the interview/candidate selection.
If I was applying for a job anywhere else, it would be a no-brainer to put her down as a reference - she's my boss, we're on good terms, and she has the most direct oversight of my work compared to anyone else in the office. Is it appropriate to put her down as a reference when I know she'll be the one deciding who gets the job? I can ask her directly when she's next in the office, but I was hoping to get the application form done sooner than that if possible!

I'm interested. Do you mean that there is a policy that, for example, only HR can author a reference (not uncommon) or do you mean they have a policy about references for internal candidates?0 -
When applyIng for a role within the same team I have put the current boss down.
The reference section that I was completing asked for current or most recent employer though.
I asked and he said it was fine (I always ask before putting people as references).

The whole way of applying for internal promotion seems very strange, but that's another matter. In direct response to the question, Yes you should put down your current manager as they will have the most up to date and relevant knowledge of your work.0

They have a policy about references for internal candidates: people involved in recruitment should not be given as a reference. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
