Cost of stamps increasing again

For heavy users and those those who like to be ahead of the game, On March 27 the following increases will apply:
First Class increases by 1p to 65p
Second Class increases by 1p to 56p
Large letter First Class increases by 2p to 98p
Large letter Second Class increases by 1p to 76p

Thank heavens for email !

  • It is getting rather expensive. I will probably buy a book of second class this this week, save a few pennies. I have stopped using First Class as I really only send birthday cards and I can make sure I send them well in advance if I am organised.

We have a rather large Christmas card list so can save some money by buying second class stamps for those before the increase. Overseas contacts now invariably get an email greetings newsletter.

I hope that card shops will remind their customers about the increased postage cost for extra large cards. Last time this happened somebody sent me a jumbo birthday card with insufficient postage. I got the inevitable Royal Mail note through the door saying "insufficient postage" and paid up because I thought it might have been an important notification about something. Not best pleased to find I'd had to cough up for my own birthday card.
  • Don't a lot of shop cards have "Letter" or "Large letter" on the back, where the price code is? I frequently make my own so am used to double checking the size before I send it!
