I have used the mortgage shop in the past but to be honest I found doing my own homework on various comparison sites such as moneysupermarket, moneyextra, bradford&bingley etc. to be most useful. You need to know what sort of products you are interested in (fixed, discount, tracker), what sort of lengh of time you are willing to commit to (1 year, 2 years, 10 years etc.) and other criteria. Know what is out there because that is the only way you will know if the broker has found you a better deal.
