new contract

Hello I need some advice about my new contract at work. I started working in a company in May 2014, my first contract was for one year ( may 2015)b ut I haven't got a new until now(feb 2017) and this second contract is until oct 2017. It doesn't make any sense for me that my second contract for the same company is shorter tham the first one, and why do they give it to me.now after such long time? Thanks any help and advice is appreciated.

  • Have you been working continuously for the company?
Do you work directly for them? (Not through an agency.)

If the answer to both of these questions is yes, then it's irrelevant how long your contract is for - you have full employment rights since you have continuity of service since 2014. When they don't need you any more they will have to pay you redundancy.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • The answer to both is yes.So why do they give me.this new contract to sign?

In may 15 the contract you had continued the only change being no end date.

Check this new one for differences.
  • But if I sign this one they don't have to pay me redundancy if they don't renew it? Is it not safer for me keep woring with the first contract? The only difference is the salary. Thanks.
  • Are you saying that in this new contract, things have changed. Has anyone discussed this with you ? Have you got an HR department who may be able to explain the changes to you ?
  • In this new contract the only thing that changes is the salary because I got a raise, what worries me is the ending date, 28/10/2017. I heard that they probably going to sell the bussines (I live in a small town) and that would me probably on those dates. I know some of my colleagues have got a new contract with exactly the same date(28/10) but one year later (2018) , even when they started to work on different months than me. I.guess that some of.us are going to stay with the new company and some of us won't. What can I do to not lose rights? I feel they are trying to fire me when this happen because I have the highest salary in my department. Thanks

if they sell then everyone should stay but the old/new owner can make redundancies at any time.

Make sure the new contract has the correct start date.
  • But wich is the correct date? 2014 when I stated working or feb 2017 when I sign this new contract? I know they dont want to keep me because I had some issues with the manager and I'm the only one who has got this year ending date. Thank you so much for your help.

The date you started with the company.

what do you want to happen?

It might make sense to plan/manage your exit if you really believe it is going to happen anyway.
  • Yes that's what I'm thinking to do.
All I want is to be sure I'm treated legally. Thanks for you help.
