Extra Energy (BIG PROBLEMS)

Good Morning All

I understand I only post when I have a problem but I intend to stop being a leacher and start being more active on the formums.

I wonder if anyone can help me?

I switched from Extra energy to Npower in September through the energy club scheme. the switch went fine and I got my FINAL bill from Extra Energy on the 13th of December saying that for the period 05/03/2015 - 22/09/2016 I had accrued £899.90 credit which they would pay into my bank on the 17/12/16( and they did ). I could believe this totally as I though I was paying over the odds anyway and it was a nice Christmas bonus. I was also £290 in credit at the end of 2015 so this made it even more believable.

However on the 07/02/2017 I got another final bill which said I owe them £728.60 and they would be taking it out of my bank on the 17th of December. when I obviously queried this they informed me that the company the employed to do our final meter readings had submitted an incorrect reading for the gas.

I have raised an official complaint as this is not my fault and the company that read the meter should be held accountable in my eyes. the official complaint is getting me nowhere as they are just trying to pressure me into closing the complaint and they have already mentioned debt collectors recovering the money.

PLEASE could someone help me and tell me what I can do as CA have not really answered any of my questions.

What would be reasonable time to pay this back as I don't really have any extra money( excuse the pun ) at the end of the month. also do I have to pay for the energy that was used over 12 months ago?

Your help in this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mick

Did you not cross check the final meter reading on the bill with the one you provided for the switch?

Unfortunately companies are able to submit a recalculated bill if there was an error. You may get a good will gesture if you complain and the option of a payment plan. You have to pay for what ever is owed on the account. Using the meter readings, you can calculate this yourself.

Don't forget, this is the actual bill for energy you actually used! They are not fleecing you.

It should have been fairly apparent there was an oversight with the massive credit on the account. This should have made you check all the figures and meter readings.

This is why, if switching to a new small provider I suggest people manage their account closely. Because errors like this are probably more common amongst smaller providers.

without sounding rude, I don't think you have read my post properly.

I know its an actual bill as I have said that the company who read the meter did it incorrectly.

you must have missed that I said " I could believe this totally as I though I was paying over the odds anyway and it was a nice Christmas bonus. I was also £290 in credit at the end of 2015 so this made it even more believable. "

I am not trying to get out of paying the bill, I'm trying to find out a few things before I call the payment team to set up a plan. like what is a reasonable time scale to pay it back!?

I did read the post, I was purely reiterating the reality of the situation. I did not mean to sound harsh. No offence taken.

My point was, regardless of whether the meter person read it correctly or not, it is down to you to check and manage the account. Even if you were £290 in credit last year, did being nearly £900 in credit not prompt you to carefully check everything?

Normally when you switch energy supplier it is you (the account holder) who submits a meter reading for the new supplier. Did you not also do this?

Did you not check the opening reading with Npower matched the closing reading with EE. If the meter reader got your closing reading wrong with EE, what are the opening readings with Npower? These are normally the same. Is there an error there too?

The terms of any repayment is down to you and the energy supplier and what you can afford and what the Energy company is prepared to allow to repay the debt. Over 12 months may be reasonable to some, but not to others. What can you realistically afford? Work it out and propose it to EE.
  • E Energy was a supplier I used a couple of years ago and I have to tell anyone interested they were the WORST company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. At one point they said I was in credit (almost £400) and (eventually) refunded me. TWO YEARS later, long after I switched suppliers, they said I owed them money but kept changing the amount they said I owed.
It went from over £300 and just a couple of weeks ago to £5.00 (At one point they rang me at 9.00 pm and said I owed then £90 - this just before they paid me the £400 they owed me)
This company is absolutely incompetent & their customer service (if you can call it such) is APPALLING - don't ever use them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
