Tax Professional and Operational Delivery Officer-anyone applied?

There is 40 jobs advertised in London (Croydon) for this one on civil service jobs.
I applied yesterday and I am shocked at my results at the verbal reasoning test.
Would love to hear from other people who have applied/taken the test?
So you have to complete competencies first and then you are sent the link to the verbal reasoning test.
I failed the test. Badly.
3 other people I know also failed that test. Badly again.
All of us have years experience in various, high level professional jobs so I wonder who can actually pass that test? If none of us did.
I had 75% on previous application test (work coach) but did not get an interview as my competencies were marked 5,4 and "adequate". Other people with the same scores (5,4) were marked as "good" so again baffled.
But the scores on verbal reasoning were a total shock to be honest.
Anyone who has recently done this one cares to comment?

There are several threads on the Student Room Public Sector forum about past and present HMRC roles.

The following is not a criticism but an observation.
I don't know if you typed your opening post in a hurry but there are some glaring grammatical errors. If you do speak like this, is it possible that grammar played a key part in this test and that has contributed to your failure. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
The test had only "yes" "no" "can not say" options so no way to judge anyone on grammar/spelling issues.
I would really like to hear from anyone else (not students) who may have also done this particular test recently.
Thanks0 -
Don't assume everyone on TSR is a student. It's like assuming everyone on MSE is a money saving expert!0

Did not think about that to be honest, good point - thanks.0

This is a quote of a post from another forum, from someone who was actually offered a job:I will be SME (Small and Medium ... bla bla bla). Hopefully it will be interested.
I got my formal and the date 3 days after my pre-employment check.

I have applied several times in the past 2 years for this position.
I have failed once the shift test , and about 3 times I passed, including the last one you mentioned.
However my competencies examples were never good enough , getting a maximum of 4 points once, but mostly a terrible 2.
I don't think it's really fair since I have never been in a management position so a stronger example does not exist. But next time maybe I will lie
Anyway, coming back to your question I merely passed the last test , so definitely they are really hard. And I barely had time to answer , and in the last minute I guessed the answers, so maybe that's why... But it was all for nothing anyway.
I will apply again and again and never give up !

Verbal reasoning tests can be relatively easy or relatively difficult.
Many years ago, out of curiosity, my wife and I bought a book of LSAT tests that American students use to prepare for admission to law school. No legal knowledge required, just verbal, numerical and logical reasoning.
Having three law degrees between us and being (we thought!) above average intelligence, we were really surprised how difficult they were.0 -
Forgot about this thread....
Got an offer of a much better position about a month ago, just waiting for all the clearances to be confirmed and hope to star in May.
Sometimes I do wonder who passes those tests as having dealt with a lot of people employed "there" I can not imagine any of them did....0
