Tax repayment SA

Hello,

I know this question has already been asked many times and I still couldn't find the right answer.
I submitted my tax return on 15 of December, it's nearly been 10 weeks and it still says pending... I've tried to send a few messages asking how long it's going to take and if they need any information how exactly are they planning to contact me if I'm currently abroad. Here's the message I've received which is not really useful...

"As previously advised your repayment is going through security checks and you will be contacted when the checks are completed. The time scales given are estimates and the actual time taken may be shorter or longer. The team making the security checks may need to write to you for further information. If they do they will not be able to complete their checks until they receive your reply, but then they may not need to write to you, which is why we can only advise broad estimates for how long the process will take."

I've tried replying them telling that under the Freedom of information act they should answer me with the estimates, although they answered with a reference to they're page about FOI. Has anybody been in a similar situation and what actions have you taken in this case. Calling them from abroad isn't really the cheapest thing (knowing how long they take to answer). It would cost me a lot less to buy a plane ticket and see them face to face lol.

Any suggestions? :)

  • Hi Efell963,

This repayment is taking rather longer than usual. Obviously it's clear that you're not getting anywhere with the current advisors.

I would recommend you write a letter to your local Tax office with Urgent Attention in big bold letters. This will hopefully prompt a Tax operator to contact yourself within a reasonable amount of time.

You must be aware that it is also a busy time of the year so your correspondence could possibly be in a backlog,

    I hope this helps
  • Thanks for advice. I do understand their current situation but that doesn't allow to mock people around. I'll be sending a letter straight away. Thanks again.
