    Hi,

Welcome to the forum, really sorry for your loss.

Can I just ask whose names the debts are in, as you are only liable for debts in your name, not your partners.

Can you give us some more details at all ?

  • Oh I'm so sorry - what a horrible situation to have found yourself in.

Make sure that you prioritise your money in the right order - mortgage/rent, council tax, then utilities and food. Everything else can wait if needed - you must focus on the priority things first though, and a roof over your head, food, heat, water & light sums up those.

  • I am so sorry to hear that things are so difficult for you. Can I suggest that your first priority is your health. Make an appt to see your GP asap and tell him/her exactly how you are feeling. They will be able to give you the support that you need, as well as putting you in touch with support services.

The samaritans helped me enormously when things were tough. You can call them 24 hours a day on 116 123

You can also speak to Stepchange regarding your finances - they will offer non-judgmental support - 0800 138 1111

    Well done for posting. xxx
  • Hi OP,
Sorry to hear of your situation.
Have you checked you are claiming all the help that you are eligible for? Your own income entitlement might change with the loss of your partners income. Try citizens advice or check

    http://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/startcalc.aspx?e2dwp=y or

    http://benefits-calculator.turn2us.org.uk/AboutYou?utm_source=BAdviser&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=GovUK

Were you married or in a civil partnership? You might be entitled to claim https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-allowance

Hope you find you are eligible for a better income

    Hi

I’m sorry to hear about the difficult time you’re having. I agree with the others that making sure you’re getting all of the income you’re entitled you, and focussing on your health, are the most important things right now.

I think a visit to your local Citizen’s Advice Bureau is a good idea as they can offer hands on support from local advisers. They can help you sort out your finances and support you with other issues you might have.

You can find details for your local CAB by searching with your postcode here:

    www.citizensadvice.org.uk

Of course, you’re welcome to telephone the free National Debtline helpline on 0808 808 4000 too.
