I had to google junket, is it like a blancmange?
Not really. Blancmange is sweetened milk thickened with cornflour. Junket is milk which has had some rennet added.
It isn't like anything else, to be honest. It's the "curds & whey" which Little Miss Muffet ate on her tuffet - although properly-made junket shouldn't separate into curds & whey until you eat it. It's a very old-fashioned thing & rather an acquired taste, but very easy to digest & I love it!
I think it's a West Country thing, too, as I used to have to buy the rennet when I went to Devon as I couldn't find it up here. Lakeland sell it now because people have started to make cheese at home.0 -
I know it's not very MSE but if I were having a cream tea I'd want good quality scones and jam - proably high fruit content conserve - as it would be a very rare treat.0

Fresh splits are better than scones. as the flavour of the cream is lost in all the sugar in the scones and jam0

I'd make my own scones and use Lidl jam which has a v high fruit content. But as a result of this thread next nice sunny day I'll be buying some prosecco to go with it. Deliciously decadent.0

I'll try it next time I pass by.
Does it have to be strawberry jam for a cream tea?
I'm an apricot jam fan - has anyone tried that from Lidl?
I like nice jam to stir into my porridge.
Instead of buying fancy flavours of porridge, I buy the original one and add my own jam.
Favourites are ginger jam, lemon curd and some vanilla & black cherry I found in Fultons.0 -
When on holiday In Cornwall I take home made scones and jam with me and just get clotted cream when we get there, meaning we (4 adults) can have a cream tea cheaply rather than paying £5+ a head.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

Maribel (Lidl) apricot jam is good. I'm rather partial to the sour cherry which I reckon would be great on scones with clotted cream (and the prosecco).0
