Hi OP,
What area/region of the country do you live in? Can you buy somewhere that you like and meets your needs for 200k and then enjoy a mortgage and debt free life?
I appreciate some people love their home and would never downsize through choice but it sounds like you are sick and tired of juggling debt and worried about a drop in income. If you could be happy elsewhere it might be the right option for you. If you don't want to move there might be other solutions to explore if you are made redundant and your income drops.
