Bluescrest health Screening-would you go?

Hi folks,

Being in the age group where health issues are starting to become a worry, I have got one of those letters from Bluecrest heath screening that will do a number of tests for £129 at local hotel.

I have read conflicting reviews on the net, but I am tempted to pay the money and get it done.
Just thought that I would run it past the people on this forum to get more views on whether you would or not, and in particular if you got a similar test done, whether you thought it was good value and worthwhile or not?
Many thanks.

  • I would bin the letter, personally. Bluecrest have in the past been subjected to an ASA ruling, due to misleading marketing blurb sent out via their database to customers who fit a certain demographic.

There have also been suspicions that the NHS are allowing Bluecrest to access certain patient information for their marketing purposes.

    Waste of money.
If you have any concerns, go to your GP and ask for some bloods taking and he can check the obvious things.

Other than that, eat a good diet for health and stop worrying :)

You are also entitled to a free NHS health check at your surgery every 5 years- I think from the age of 50?- this is particularly aimed at patients who rarely see the Dr.
If you haven't had one you might ask your surgery!
It is basicallyto check your health, diet, BP, BMI with a cholesterol test.
If you are a regular at your GP's then you probably would not be invited .

    Hi.
I am wondering why health issues are starting to become a worry, and what age group is that? Have you always had health issues and they are now becoming worse, or are these new health issues that you imagine might happen in the future? Perhaps your diet and exercise routine is not up to scratch and could be improved. If there is something troubling you now make an appointment with your doctor.

I would not pay to get health checks, IMO these private companies prey on people's insecurities to make their money. The choice is yours however.

If you have healthconcerns that are making you consider spending this sort of money, I'd go to your GP and discuss them.
  • My mother aged 63 at the time (1year ago) received an invite to attend a locally arranged BlueCrest event in 2017. She thought it seemed like a good offer. She attended and they asked her if she feels she has any problems and she said she's been coughing sometimes, After them having completed the health check, they gave her a report, and in it said "her lungs are the age of a 95 year old" . She was worried, so we got an appointment to have this double checked and the results given by the NHS were nothing of the sort. Her lungs were fine. She's never smoked or drunk alcohol. However, in the weeks leading up to mum getting the all clear by the NHS, she fell into depression, and started suffering panic attacks. She got so worried. She went from being a healthy happy woman to an anxious person and was prescribed with tablets to help her relax. She has never been the same since. She said she signed a form to agree to their T&C's and I have no idea who to complain to. Having to deal with helping her get back to normal, therapy and trials of many things, I haven't been able to complain and don't know who outside of Bluecrest to complain to? Has to much time gone past that I cant complain, but I feel I need to. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I suspect the report she'll have been given is one person's medical opinion, as is the opinion given by her GP. I'd try and put it all behind you as a family and treat it as an expensive lesson in not to fall for expensive mistakes.

I'm approaching my 60s far too rapidly, but I'd rather trust my GP for an MOT any day.

Yes I read your comments to date and have to say that I have four years running now had a health check with them.
The blood results are easy for me to understand as I'm a trained nurse. I ve adjusted my diet and seen the improvement the following year.
The cardio and vital organs checks are clear and well presented alongside average readings and any untoward results flagged clearly. I was pleased to recognise adverse side effects to heart rhythm by prescribed medication in good time before any damage was caused and show the result to my GP when he had refused me an ECG to check what I suspected.
I am always pleased to see how the breath test and grip ability show. The vascular test is not always comfortable as it involves ankle cuffs which on one occasion hurt and I had a raised BP.... But that was because the reading was taken straight away!
The summary booklet is very good and clear.
Doctors are becoming pill prescribers more and more in the experience of my community and less bothered about individual lifestyle approach to health and have minimal interest in showing individuals how to monitor their own health. Test results are not explained in context if at all even after hospital procedures which I think is deplorable. Many intelligent people I know are turning to the Internet rather than waste time with their GP Practice and finding ways to keep healthy with lifestyle and dietary adjustments.
