A gift for a child that has everything!

I babysit for a lovely little boy who is about to turn 9 at the weekend. His parents are extremely well off and equally as lovely, and often spend a fortune on my dd who is 2. They are very generous and as they only have the one son he has everything he could ever want! He is by no means spoilt in his behaviour, but I am at a total loss as to what to get him for a birthday present. Although it is silly of me, I feel a bit under pressure to get him something decent as they always spend so much on dd (eg, big toys for her birthdays, big cheques for her bank account, a whole range of toys for her to play with when we go round there to babysit) and put a lot of thought into gifts. Anything that is the latest craze I know he will already have, or be getting for his birthday already. I also do not want to spend a huge amount as I really cannot afford it, so ideally I want something cheap, unusual that looks like its a lot!
i dont ask for much do I? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My usual advice when someone is stuck for a present is champagne or a harmonica. Perhaps not champagne for a 9 year old though.0

I don't know if it is possible but how about tickets to a theme park then you could take him in the new year?
Or how about a hamper for a movie night?
Or if he is into football or has another interest how about a yearly subscription to a football/interest magazine that will arrive through his door monthly.
A watch?0 -
McAzrael, believe it or not he already has a musical instruments box which actually contains a harmonica!!!! lol!
Mae, some great ideas, i saw he had a science-y kind of comic the other day, might search the web to see if theres anything like that on subscription. He does also like football a lot so thats a good idea, thank you!0 -
What about adopting an animal at a zoo and a trip to visit it? Or a charity present. E.g:

Have a look at www.thebookpeople.co.uk - they do great books for children and adults at a much cheaper price than the shops.
They are not a book club and you do have to buy a set amount or buy more from them later or anything like that.
I got a set of ten children'sbooks that should have been £70 for £9.99."This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
Preemie hats - 2.0 -
My sons favourite is the Four Four Two football magazine and he really looks forward to it arriving. There are some subscription offers somewhere on the site (maybe someone could post a link) so may be worth looking into that you may get a free gift with it or a cheaper subscription.0

Sorry to sugest this one
Grit your teeth!!! How about a visit to an Army,RAF or Naval museum.Duxford has lots of iteresting (yawn!!!) planes ect.Visit/tour of his fave footie ground lots of clubs do this now.
Or if you can streach a bit swimming, ice skating, ten pin bowling, MacDonalds and a film not all at once:eek: but 2 + MacDonalds.
Or you could make a card with these as options saying that he may take one freind of his choice to the venu of his choice and you will supply transport and pay.Giving him a chioce will make him feel grown up.Some of the best lessons we ever learn,we learn from our mistakes and failures.the error of the past is the success and wisdom of the future. :j0 -
Thank you so much for all these fab ideas, i think he would love the adopt an animal suggestion (he adopted a hedgehog but it died and he was gutted). will definately check out the book/mag ideas and the idea to take him on a day out is also a good one.

One of my friends adopted a tiger for me at London Zoo. I thought that it was such a good idea that 3 friends got various adopted animals that following year!!!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0
