HI
I live with my partner but it is just his name on the mortgage, we are selling this house and buying a property together, we have just done an online app on principal with Halifax who he is with and they have given us 14 year maximum, is this because he is 39 and I am 51 and will be 65 in 14 years, seems daft to me, my partner is the main income (excellent wage) I'm part time..... is this the case does anyone know
thanks

Did he put that his retirement age will be 65 ?
Also the Government age for retirement is now 68 I believe, if you have A mortgage term going into retirement you will have to show funds or how you would pay back after you retire. Either way I believe seeing a mortgage advisor or actually going to one the lenders have a face-to-face conversation will resolve the problem0 -
Have you keyed a 65 retirement age for yourself?
You should be aware that some lenders wll let you base your maximum term on your husband's age, not your own.
Halifax may not be your best option.I am a Mortgage Broker
