Picturehouse cinemas have a reduced rate for over 60s for “Silver Screen” showings; other cinemas probably offer something similar.

would this question not be better placed on the MSE Benefits board?

    Perhaps.

I want to know why, instead of pipe dreaming to retire early- you arent slamming more cash into a DC pensions now?

That is the way you can afford to retire early.

I will be working part-time as well as receiving my work pension.

You haven't intimated what your current, full time work is. That said, going part time is something worth planning for in advance in itself. Is this something your current employer will facilitate? If not, just taking any old part time work could be a bit soul-destroying - taking a step down and still being considered the wise old head in one thing, taking a step down into a context where previous experience counts for naught isn't great. The ideal situation is possibly new employment with a new, small, private sector employer where your previous experience provides a distinctive USP...

Do you have a DB pension which comes into payment without actuarial reduction when you are 60?

This is from your current employment from which you would retire at 60?

Is there an option to draw your pension and continue to work for the same employer on a part time basis?

Or you've had enough of your current employment and want something completely different?

Your new employer would have ( or must soon have) a pension scheme which you might well be able to join.

While you are still in your current job you might wish to increase your pension contributions?

    Good Morning

I am not going to say what my current employment is. All I can say is it is for a "not very good employer who is only interested in the business need and not the welfare of the staff" and I don't really want to continue the countdown to my retirement in such bad conditions. I have been there for a long time (laziness on my part in not finding something else). I want to have a bit more me time with enough income to live reasonably well. And YES "atush" it is a PIPE DREAM but if I can achieve it I will. I am good at my job and care about fair conditions which is not liked by management. I do my job to the best of my ability, comply with all the rules and conditions even though my heart and mind says differently.

I could reduce my hours with my current employer if they will let me. I would like part time work with an employer who cares about their staff. My work pension is not automatically payable at 60 unless I request to retire at that age. My official retirement age is 66 at present. I do not know if I can retire at 60 and continue working for the same employer part-time but I can look into that. And yes I can increase my pension contributions to my current employer.

The whole reason for this post was to find out what is available to me and what my options are.

There are very few benefits available to a fit healthy under state pension age person. Being female makes no difference now, pension age equality is here. If you cannot provide an income from your own sources retiring early will not be an option. You need to do the maths on how much you need to live on. Have you had an up to date state pension forecast to check what you need to do on that front ?

you could get to the doctor and see if you can get sickness benefit , like a lot do , other than that i would keep going like the governent want you to ,

I really hope that wasn't a serious comment - let's all fake illness at 60 to avoid having to work until the pension kicks in?
(Not aimed at OP who made no such suggestion.)
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I am waiting for my pension forecast to come back so I can make the correct decision for myself.

I am in fairly good health for my age. Although the working conditions are not good for the health of my colleagues and myself.

There are constant changes at work which are causing other colleagues to "vote with their feet" which is the best decision for them. I want to do what is best for myself.
