EDF won't allow us to leave

Listen, Don't be so sure that switching is going to save you over 300 quid a year.
If the £ per KWH is lower than your current rate then its cheaper, if its not then its not going to be cheaper.0 -

From your post you say you are angry with EDF when you owe them money, I was simply pointing out what is possibly their position, also you stated a 'few hundred' pounds which could mean anything.
It would appear by some of your other posts on the forum you need to calm down and be more rational.0 -

That is not necessarily correct.
You need to calculate the cost based on your usage taking into account the entire tariff details e.g. daily standing charge, discounts applicable (if any), etc.
Or easier still, consult a comparison site ... which does the calculation for you0 -
I wonder if you are as short & defensive with the EDF staff as you've been on here I'm not sure that anyone would want to help.
As others have said, look at your consumption and see what it would actually cost you - most comparison sites can be very optimistic with their savings forecasts because of the way they are calculated. You'll only save money if the cost per kwh is less than you are presently pay, the same for your standing charge.
Try doing the sums yourself and see whether the forecast saving could really be realised.
Likewise have a look at your consumption and see if there's anything you can do to reduce it. That would help get your arrears down a bit fasterNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
For me EDF are showing 2 tariffs cheaper than the cheapest SP both with no exit fee. Have you checked on a comparison site using accurate kWh annual consumption figures ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

For anyone interested.Stitching_Witch wrote: »Hi all
I have been unable to work for nearly a couple of years now due to ill health. With me not earning we are totally dependant on my husbands wages.
We are with EDF for our gas and electric. We currently have a few hundred pounds arrears. We have explained the situation to EDF and have made it clear that we will pay the arrears. We have a debt management plan at the moment which we have also told EDF about.
Scottish Power could save us hundreds on our energy bills which would really help our situation. However, EDF have blocked a transfer to SP because of our arrears.
I know I am probably being unreasonable about this but I am angry that EDF won't allow us to leave when we have every intention of paying them what we owe
Has anyone else been in this position ?0 -
The sense of entitlement is breathtaking. If you want to change (and have you taken the advice to check calculations) then how about paying your debts off first? As has been said you used the energy.0

I see the OP has spat their dummy out on all the threads they have started.0
