Employer amending overtime form without my knowledge?

Hi,
Can my employer amend my overtime paperwork, without my knowledge, after I have signed and submitted it to paymasters?

    Depends what you mean.
If you mean they're making it look like your original entry was different, then no, they shouldn't do that.
If they're adding notes or amendments and it's clear the manager has done it, then sure, why not?

  • Hi Stator,

Thanks for your reply. I am asked to enter all my months overtime on paperwork and then sign the paper to say this is an accurate account of the additional hours I have worked. Can this be amended? Either the hours or wether they should be paid at double time or time and a half, without letting me know that they "disagree" with my account?

Simply put, I have received my paypacket and my hours have been adjusted, without me knowing
  • Of course they should not alter something which you have signed. Take a photo after you have signed it, and raise a grievance with your HR department (assuming you have one) - or at least point the discrepancy out to them and ask why the difference exists. Management can of course disagree with your reckoning, but should let you know.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

My OT sheets used to have an employee signature and a supervisor signature. I signed it first.

Is it clear from your payslip that overtime x has been replaced with overtime y, or is it just less than expected?

There are two slightly different things - can your employers change your sheet after you submit them, ie making it look like you submitted something different. I would say they shouldn't.

However, there may be occasions where they can overrule what you claimed for. If an employee made a mistake and claimed double time when it wasn't due, or for hours that weren't properly authorised or something.
