Train Season Ticket Extra Usage

Hi guys,
I've recently gotten a new job in Leeds, but live in York,so have decided to commute by train using a Monthly Season ticket.
My partner currently lives in Harrogate, which is conveniently on one of the York to Leeds lines. Would I be right in thinking that if I bought the season ticket for commuting to work, I would conveniently be able to use it to travel to and from Harrogate too?
One of the first conditions for season tickets on the National Rail website is: "You can use your Season Ticket up to and including its expiry date for any number of journeys between the stations and/or within the zone(s) shown on it at any time of day. It may be used at intermediate stations, and on any permitted route, unless a route or any other restrictions are specified on the ticket. Details are available where these tickets are issued."
The phrase "it may be used at intermediate stations" makes me think that it would be okay to use it like this, but has anyone ever used their season ticket in this way, and have they ever been challenged by a station guard about it? I've heard that the guards at Harrogate station are occasionally overzealous with their interpretation of the rules, so wanted to check on here before I use it like this so I have all the information at my disposal.
Many thanks,
Al

Yes you can use your ticket in the manner described.0

You may be able to use it on some other routes too, depending on what is classed as a permitted route between Leeds and York. If you're curious, there are plenty of experts on http://www.railforums.co.uk/ who could advise.0

If your season ticket covers you on a route that goes from York to Leeds via Harrogate, you can use it to travel in any direction between any two stations along the line.
It's nothing unusual, it's not a loophole, it's exactly how the tickets were designed. You'll be fine.
I've used season tickets (different routes) exactly this way loads of times.0 -
It's absolutely valid via Harrogate, and if anyone at Harrogate says otherwise, they're very wrong and can be dealt with through appropriate channels.0
