Preserving Jars

Last year we purchased some Ikea preserving jars. For some reason some of these did not seal correctly.
What can we do to ensure a perfect seal this year?
(As we are away for a week, thank you for any help)

What was the problem last year? Perhaps the jars are poorly designed and/or poorly manufactured which might mean you never get a decent sealWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

I think it might be the design too, I've read several comments like this about Ikea jars.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

It would appear that SOME of the seals did not work correctly. Thay must have let in air, fruit was not preserved. The jars are here http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40065867.
I accept that the problem could be a manufacturing one (so much for todays quality control procedures and kite marks). Just wondered if someone could come up with an idea to ensure that there is a perfect seal, like placing a waxed paper cut out between the seal and the jar.0 -
Paper could tear or disintegrate if wet - even if waxed.
Cling film might work.
Ideally, the rubber seal would work - otherwise I would have returned them to Ikea as not fit for purpose.
You might try a seal from a Kilner jar like this one but knowing Ikea, you'll probably find that their jars are of a unique size and nothing else will fit them
Sadly, with Ikea, the whole size thing on just about everything they stock has annoyed me in the past, to the point where I don't bother to shop there anymore. A case of "you get what you pay for", I think :mad:Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

Thanks for the info & the link.
The seals in the link won't fit the Ikea jars but I have some "Kilner Type" ones that they will.
I thought I was the only person in the UK who could not find anything to get excited about with the Ikea "experience". Even the long walk around the store to find the way out is of no benefit as it is too slow.0 -

I almost didn't mention anything as slagging off Ikea is like slagging off God with some people! :rotfl:
Can't stand the place. Thankfully, my nearest one is over 50 miles away and, as I rarely venture out of the Parish, I have every excuse not to go thereWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
