What a great forum - not feeling quite so alone!

4 days ago I was in a real mess, panicking and worrying over the 55K hole that my wife and I find ourselves in.

This forum has been a lifeline over the last few days, helping me to see that our debt problems are fixable.

I have also discovered that there are many many others in similar, or in some cases, more debt than us. I worked out earlier that at the age of 36, I have been in some form of debt for half of my life and ALL of my adult life. This needs to change! My aim is to only have mortgage debt by the time I reach 40. This gives me 3.5 years to pull my finger our and put my wallet away!

Thank you for posting. I have just checked out your threads and can see that out situations are not that different! Can I be cheeky and ask what income you have available to service your debts?? no worries if you are not able/willing to share this.

    Hi worriedDan,

It is lovely here isn't it? Even when someone is harsh I think its usually only when called for...afterall sometimes we just can't see it and it takes someone else saying it and challenging us to see the light. This place keeps me going and focused.

My debt is a lot less than yours, but then I seem to recall my income is too, I am also aiming to be debt free by 40 (a year older than you) but with an emergency fund and saving for future adventures. Then I will aim at overpaying my mortgage.

Keep posting and stay involved, it really helps on days when you feel less motivated or are thrown by something and could easily slip back into denial.

Lovely post! I love seeing how positive people feel about being here.

  • Hi worriedDan, It is a great forum.
I've just come out of lurkdom after years of reading threads where I thought, 'that is me'.
I've been following ur thread and you will get through it, and it really helps to have a target at the end.
I'm at the end of my debt busting journey now, have a few months left, but boy do they feel like an eternity so decided to come out of lurkdom for the extra support to help with the impatience. Do I still have times where I just want to recklessly spend-yes, but I recognise why I do it now.
But the forum does really help to change your mindset.
Good luck on your journey, but whether it be a high or low as we all hit obstacles along the way, the forum is always here to support. Cannot recommend it highly enough

  • Glad you are feeling better Dan. That's a lovely post..you are deffo not alone!

It doesn't matter how much debt you are in, once you make a plan you feel in control of your life again which I think is half the battle.

Good luck on your journey - we will be with you all the way!

Hi worried dan. I'm following your journey too.

Yes this site is fab.....lots of support and encouragement.

I cleared £30k of debt. It's a great feeling to be debt free as you will find out.

Just stick with the programme and follow the good advice on here and you will be debt free sooner then you think. I bet you'll hit that 40 deadline with ease.
