well I live in blissful ignorance of whatever you are wittering on about as I have never looked at my "tax summary", nor would I know how to.

A slightly facetious response would be to say open the envelope, extract the sheet with the tax summary on it, and read it. Do you just throw it unopened into the recycling bin?

GENUINE response - what paper? I have "had" to do SA for 5 years. I have never received anything through the post?
  • According to gov.uk you won't receive it through the post

How you’ll get your tax summary
If you’re a PAYE taxpayer (for example, you’re an employee), HMRC will send your summary by post.

If you receive your tax summary from HMRC with your PAYE notice of coding, you don’t need to do anything further as your tax summary is for information.

If you’re a Self Assessment taxpayer (for example, you’re self-employed) you’ll be able to view your summary online, providing you’ve sent HMRC your tax return and signed up for their online services.

You can ask HMRC to stop sending you a PAYE annual tax summary.

I just assumed they sent them by post to everyone, but I guess they save some money by only providing them online for current SA users. So to booksurr I will revise my response to say look online.
  • For the last 3 years my tax summary has had the figure of 5300 under other income making my taxable income ridiculous, as I only have a state and work pension.
When I queried this I was told to ignore it as it is a made up figure! Made up from where!
Certainly not income from savings interest!

Sure enough there is the figure again on my annual Tax summary 15/16 received today

Just received my tax code of 603M for 17/18 and it seems right, as I have my O.H. Marriage Allowance.
just thought Id check on my PTA, could not get in, apparently my passport details don't match their records, so had to send them in again with my date of birth.
Believe me they were spot on, I get paranoid about entering them into to flight details so they were exactly right.
    Waiting to hear back now.
  • You didn't believe the "made up figure" comment I hope. Who is making these things up, some higher being!

It's probably old information that has never been corrected, the HMRC bod should have been able to explain it properly and if you genuinely don't have whatever it was anymore then it should be easy for them to correct your tax so you don't get this problem each year.
