:j New year, new diary!

Last year my debt was around £45k and my debt at the moment stands about £16.5k. I need to work out final figures and then add them to my signature.

Whilst my old diary allowed me to track debt repayments, it also made me miserable looking at the figures day in and day out and just focusing on debt repayment and not about enjoying life at the same time. So I'd like this diary to be more positive and more about living a happy and frugal life :j

    So here's the current situ:
    - Working freelance (minuscule income at the mo!) and haven't had a 'proper' career in nearly 2.5 years. I have been working between freelance and full-time contracts but my career took a back seat to focus on my part-time degree. I'm currently looking for full-time work - I want to get back on track with my career!
    - I'm still studying part-time for my degree. I can fit a full-time job around it but it means that I need to be super organised and keep my stress-levels low. I'm hoping to finish all of my modules this year so that I graduate in summer 2018.
    - Since leaving my 'proper career' job, the requirements for a job in this industry have changed and a lot of companies now request that you have a professional qualification, so I'm doing evening college once a week too!
    - I'm a homeowner and desperately need to re-mortgage but my lack of permanent income and poor credit history means that it's a no go right now. A lot of the 'bad marks' are due to drop off in 2017, so I'm hoping that all of my efforts this year will allow me to look at re-mortgaging next year. Luckily, I have a good amount of equity so am hoping that I can use the re-mortgage to pay off any outstanding debts and start afresh.
  • I've got an interview tomorrow morning for a Sunday job. I'm better when I'm busy and hoping to get a weekend job so that I can sling extra money to my debt repayments.

I'm determined that this will be a better year!

Hi there, just wondering how you managed to pay off almost £30k of debt in a year, that's brilliant, well done! I'm not sure how this year could be any better debt- wise!
If you know you have enough, you're rich. ;)

Hi! I had a BTL property that I sold, which generated most of the £30k debt repayment money. Unfortunately the property was in negative equity so I still owe approx £5k to the mortgage lender :( but as I appeared to be throwing good money after bad, I thought it was probably time to cut my losses and sell it.
  • Job interview today went well. Hoping to hear back in the next couple of weeks.

I have a telephone interview tomorrow for a temp 'career focused' job. It would be for a couple of months, which would buy me some more time to keep looking for perm roles.

Have college this evening. So another positive day working towards my goals.

One of my friends had her nails done yesterday and as I'm going away on Thursday, I nearly went too. Instead, I will do my own beauty stuff before going away. A couple of years ago I would have thought nothing of spending in excess of £100 on nails, highlights, eyebrow tint and waxing before going on holiday, which seems crazy now!
