EA telling fibs?

Just wondered what everyone thought of this

My husband is still intending to buy the house we wanted (that's a whole other story that requires tequila) and he asked me to contact the EA as I've previously had all the dealings to make an appointment for him. I'm trying to be nice and want to speed this process up as much as possible, so I did. She told me that there was interest now in the property and the people required the sale of their home before proceeding and she had to contact them! What I don't get is I contacted her on Thursday to see if the property was still pretty much available and she said yes and she'd put a note of interest in and contact me!

She called me Friday to see how we were getting on and what our decision was going to be and I explained our circumstances and she didn't mention these other buyers either. She called my husband before I called her and left her a message asking if he was doing a sole application (she told me on the phone she'd called him)

Is she telling fibs to try and rush italong? Or has she just been rather lax in updating us and now my husband is in it alone she's trying to up the property price?

make an offer on what you think it is worth, it is irrelevant what the EA is thinking or not thinking. They work for the vendor and it is in their interest to pass on offers.

Are you saying that your house does not have an offer on it?

In that case its quite possible that when the EA went back to the vendors of the house you (or is it your husband?) are interested in, the vendor said they were not interested in offers from people who were not proceedable.

Is that what you meant by "She told me that there was interest now in the property and the people required the sale of their home before proceeding and she had to contact them!" Because its not that clear to me. What is "their home"? Does that mean "your home" ? And "the people" are the vendors?

The vendor simply wants to sell the property to a procedable buyer. The EA works for them not you. So isn't going to update you everything somebody expresses an interest in the property. The EA perhaps feels that the matter is dragging along.

Husband went to see them and clearly I'm just frazzled.

Their has been another potential buyer, they however need to sell their property to buy the one my husband is also interested in and at present they have no offers on the table. Due to this, the buyer has decided to put a closing date on the table which is this Friday. The EA stated that an offer from my husband would be taken seriously and he has now instructed a lawyer to put in an offer.

The EA had previously stated that they would let us know if anyone had shown an interest in the property - clearly this didn't happen but it's done now. My husbands offer is on the table and he's submitted his full application to Leeds BS in the hope that it shows he's serious.

Does your husband need to sell a house to buy? And is it just him buying?

    Also, are you in Scotland?

No. I am a social tenant and he currently resides with me. Our marriage has completely broken down but he has nowhere else to go and I can't see him homeless so I have said he can stay here whilst he awaits this decision / mortgage approval.

Yeah we are in Scotland. Where it seems everything involved in buying a house is backward
  • Look at the EA's lips. If they move, presume that it's a lie.
